Field of Streams – Week 9
By: J.J. Gosh @jjgosh
For those of you new to fantasy football, or if you are just looking for a new strategy, “Streaming” is the idea of selecting somebody from the Free Agent pool or waiver wire based on favorable matchups. This strategy is particularly effective if you failed to draft an elite player at QB, TE, or DEF.
Fantasy Football Streaming Options Week 9 2018
To help you dominate your week
With another week in the books, we have another solid performance for Field of Streams. Derek Carr and the Washington Redskins were both top-3 options at their position, and both the Cardinals and 49ers gave you top-5 finishes for Defense/Special Teams. More importantly, it’s been a really impressive 1st half of the year for us. In addition to this week’s picks, I’m going to highlight the 1st half results and what you could have streamed this year if you’ve followed along since week 1.
Year in Review
|Pts Scored||Top 12 %||Season Rank|
This highlights just how successful streamers have been this year. Not only were you were given a top-12 QB option in 6 of 8 weeks, but the potential points scored from streaming QB’s has been 234.48, which is currently QB2 behind ONLY Patrick “Showtime” Mahomes who has scored an outrageous 269.94pts. Tight Ends have been a nightmare all season, or so you’d think. Streaming these Tight Ends options would have netted you 70.80 points which is only 8.85 fantasy points per game. However, that is good enough to be the 8th best TE score so far this year. This number is higher than Gronk, Jimmy Graham, Jordan Reed, and Evan Engram… gross. While we’ve been providing you with rock solid streamers at Quarterback (QB2), Defenses have really been the bread and butter of Field of Streams. Every single week of the season, you were provided with a top-12 option at the DST position. More impressive than that is the fact that you could have potentially scored a total of 141 fantasy points from these defenses which would be the TOP OVERALL Defense/Special Teams score by far, beating the LA Rams 82pts.
1.) Derek Carr – 26% owned – @ San Francisco
Carr showed you exactly what he could be last week, tossing 3 TD’s on limited attempts vs the Colts. This week he gets the 49ers who have been the 7th best matchup for opposing QB’s.
2.) Ryan Fitzpatrick – 9% owned – @ Carolina
All aboard the FitzMAGIC hype train again. In the 4 games he started, he scored 38+ points in 3 of those. He also put up 20+ points in mop-up duty behind Winston last week. Carolina isn’t an easy matchup, but buckle up for some more fireworks.
3.) Marcus Mariota – 27% owned – @ Dallas
His rushing ability should provide a solid floor, coming off his 2nd best performance of the year, and having a bye week to prepare, all signs point to Mariota having a good game. I’m a bit more skeptical, but with so many teams on bye, the options are limited.
1.) Charles Clay – 14% owned vs Chicago
His Quarterbacks love him as a safety net, having received 5+ targets in 4 of his last 5. He should have a safe floor, but not that high of a ceiling.
2.) Hayden Hurst – 3% owned – vs Pittsburgh
Baltimore loves involving their Tight Ends, Hurst is finally healthy, and he caught a TD last week (albeit in garbage time). Pittsburgh has given up the 4th most points to the Tight End, so he could find the end zone yet again.
3.) Jeff Heuerman – 1% owned – vs Houston
He’s seen at least 4 targets for 5 straight games and he found the end zone last week. Heuerman is one of Keenum’s favorite check-downs.
1.) Dallas Cowboys – 15% owned – vs Tennessee
The Cowboys have 4 turnovers in their last 3 games and the matchup vs the Titans could be a slow, ugly, low-scoring game.
2.) Tennessee Titans – 9% owned – @ Dallas
I’m hedging my bets, picking both Tennessee and Dallas, but both have been start-able at one point or another, and bye weeks are really limiting your options.
3.) NY Jets – 24% owned – @ Miami
The Jets have cooled down significantly since their hot start, but they get Brock and the Dolphins who have given up the 8th most points to the DST position. Expect a few turnovers.
Stay tuned next week to see the results from all the players mentioned above, as well as my streamers for next week. Follow me on Twitter @jjgosh for more updates and insight.
