Baker Mayfield Signs With The Buccaneers – Fantasy Outlook
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are signing veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield to a one-year deal worth up to $8.5 million. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)
Fantasy Football Outlook: Following Tom Brady’s second retirement, the Buccaneers were expected to add a veteran quarterback this offseason. Mayfield was a popular candidate, given his starting experience. Last year the former No. 1 overall pick had 2,163 passing yards and 10 touchdowns compared to eight interceptions in 12 games with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams.
However, don’t expect Mayfield to be handed the starting job next season. Tampa Bay has high hopes for former second-round pick Kyle Trask. The former Florida Gator is heading into his third year in the NFL. Yet, Trask has only nine pass attempts in his NFL career, completing three for a whopping 23 yards.
While Buccaneer fans have started the “Crap for Caleb” slogan on Twitter, the team signing Mayfield is good news for fantasy players with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin on their roster. The former No. 1 overall pick will never come in comparison to Brady. However, Mayfield will give the team a solid veteran to lean on if Trask struggles.
