Bayer Leverkusen vs. Bayern Munich

We have seen this movie before. Bayer Leverkusen is on a roll yet again scoring loads of goals and what happens? They run into Bayern Munich and get beat and beat badly. The big difference for this game is adding the fact that there is finally a major race for the Bundesliga title with Bayern only ahead of Dortmund by two points.
I will be the first to say I actually like this Leverkusen attack a lot. They should score in this game. But the way they defend is mediocre at best having allowed the most goals of anyone in the top nine positions at 39. One of the statistics that jumps off the screen here is Bayern has scored 15 goals in their last four trips to Leverkusen. Additionally, winning all four of those matches. Leverkusen has also allowed multiple goals to Mainz, Monaco(Europa League), and Dortmund all while at home.
The biggest thing that sticks out to me about this game on the side of Bayern is the sense of urgency that should be there. If they were to draw this match and win a very winnable game against Koln, Bayern would go into the international break tied with Dortmund. The biggest roadblock that could present is the fact that Dortmund may have a significant advantage.
Champions League
That advantage is, they only have Bundesliga to focus on. However, Bayern is guaranteed to at least have two more weeks of midweek Champions League games with their next two being against arguably the best team in the world, Manchester City. With such an important fixture after the break it’s important that Bayern maintain their lead over Dortmund to leave any room for error they may need having two games against Manchester City.
The most important element of this game is Bayer Leverkusen and the level of fatigue that can’t be ignored. They have played four games from March 5th to March 16th and this game against Bayern will be their 5th game in two weeks and their third game in one week. It takes an outstanding performance out of any team just to compete with Bayern and they are on three days’ rest compared to the eight days the leaders have had to prepare for this game.
