Brock Purdy Fantasy Outlook 2024: QB Breakout Candidate?
The 2024 NFL preseason is here and fantasy football drafts are just around the corner. Fantasy managers can rejoice as the quarterback position has never been deeper in redraft leagues. There are several quarterbacks with a low-end QB1/high-end QB2 ADP who could finish inside the top six. Brock Purdy is one of those quarterbacks.
While the former Mr. Irrelevant NFL Draft pick isn’t the most exciting or talented quarterback in the league, Purdy is set up to have fantasy success. The former Iowa State star has an outstanding set of weapons, is in a fantasy-friendly offense, and will be playing for a massive contract extension in 2024. Let’s look at Purdy’s fantasy football outlook.
QB Brock Purdy Fantasy Football Outlook
Purdy is heading into his third NFL season, including the second as the full-time starter. Recently, he was outstanding in 2023, totaling 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions. The former Iowa State star finished fifth in passing yards and third in touchdowns. Despite Christian McCaffrey ranking second in rushing attempts (272), first in yards (1,459), and second in touchdowns among running backs (14).
More importantly, Purdy was the QB6, averaging 18.5 fantasy points per game. The young quarterback averaged more fantasy points per game than several big-name superstars. Notably, C.J. Stroud (18.4), Justin Herbert (18), Patrick Mahomes (17.5), and Joe Burrow (14.7). Purdy’s supporting cast was outstanding in 2023. However, it will be even better this season, barring a last-minute trade.
Brock Purdy Fantasy Outlook (2024)
The San Francisco 49ers have the top receiving core in the league. McCaffrey is the top pass-catching running back in football, totaling a team-high seven receiving touchdowns last year. Additionally, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel would be the No. 1 wide receiver on many NFL rosters. George Kittle was the only tight end with over 1,000 receiving yards last season. Meanwhile, the 49ers used their first-round pick in the NFL Draft on Ricky Pearsall, who has flashed star potential during camp.
While San Francisco could trade Aiyuk or Samuel before Week 1, fantasy players should expect both veteran receivers to catch passes from Purdy in 2024. The young quarterback has limited rushing upside, averaging only 1.7 fantasy points per game on the ground last year. Yet, Purdy is an excellent low-end QB1 draft target, especially in six-point per passing touchdown leagues.
Dynasty Football Outlook
Dynasty fantasy football players who snagged Purdy off the waiver wire during the 2022 season couldn’t be happier. He was the QB6 in his first year as the full-time starter after being the QB6 over his five regular season starts in 2022. The 49ers will likely have to move on from Aiyuk or Samuel this upcoming offseason for salary cap reasons. However, Purdy should remain an underrated low-end QB1 with upside in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
Brock Purdy Fantasy Outlook: Final Verdict
Fantasy players in 1QB leagues should love drafting Purdy at his QB11 ADP. The third-year player had a top-six finish in his first season as the full-time starter. Furthermore, he has the top set of weapons in the NFL. Unfortunately, Purdy lacks rushing upside, totaling only 157 rushing yards in 25 career regular season games. However, he is a young quarterback who is one of the safest fantasy football draft picks in 2024.
