Chris Olave 2024 Fantasy Outlook – An Elite WR1?
The 2024 fantasy football season is quickly approaching and it’s time to prepare for your upcoming fantasy drafts. The wide receiver position in fantasy football has changed drastically these last few seasons. Elite wide receivers are becoming more and more important as they continue creeping up the draft board.
Chris Olave may be the WR1 on the New Orleans Saints but where should he be taken on draft night? Is Olave an elite fantasy receiver? In this article, I will look into these questions as well as Olave’s fantasy football outlook for 2024 and beyond.
WR Chris Olave Fantasy Value
Olave is currently being drafted as the WR10 and WR16th overall according to FantasyPros PPR consensus rankings. Last season, he averaged 14.5 PPR fantasy points per game. Furthermore, the 23-year-old wide receiver from Ohio State has back-to-back 1000+ yard seasons to begin his career. That is Olave’s floor and there are plenty of reasons to believe that his numbers should increase in 2024.
One reason Olave’s potential numbers increase is the upgrade at Offensive Coordinator. The Saints hired former San Francisco 49ers OC Klint Kubiak. We all know how great the 49ers offensive scheme is and how successful the Shannahan coaching tree has been, Moreover, Olave was seen taking snaps out of the backfield during OTAs. If the Saints manufacture more touches for Olave then there’s no reason to believe he couldn’t be among the top five fantasy wide receivers this season.

More importantly, this will be Olaves second season with quarterback Derek Carr. Last season there were plenty of examples where Carr and Olave just weren’t on the same page. For example, Carr would throw deep and Olave would cut to the sideline resulting in an incompletion. However, after another offseason of building chemistry, these two will be able to connect more frequently on the off-script/option routes.
Fantasy Football Outlook
For 2024 fantasy football purposes, Olave is poised to take the next step into the elite category of wide receivers. Last season he saw the 6th-most air yards in the league with 1,834 making him one of the elite deep threats in the NFL.
Furthermore, Carr got beat up last season and played hurt through much of the year. First, it was problems with his shoulder then it was concussion issues. When Carr is healthy he is among the best deep passers in the league. I will be scooping up Olave in as many leagues as I possibly can as a WR1 overall season is well within his range of outcomes.
Dynasty Fantasy Outlook
While his dynasty fantasy football outlook may seem a little shaky, Olave is still well worth the price. He is currently WR9 in the FantasyPros consensus rankings. The biggest downside is the question mark at quarterback with Olave not being tied to elite guy. However, at the very least he will play with Carr for the next two seasons and continue to be the Saints WR1 for the foreseeable future.
Furthermore, this is especially true considering the Saints cap situation. They aren’t going to sign or trade for any big-name wide receivers because they can’t pay them. Additionally, if they are bad enough to get a top pick they will more than likely bring in a top quarterback before they drafted another top receiver. Therefore, Olave is a very safe option at WR9 and I would be comfortable picking Olave as high as WR5 in dynasty leagues.

Overall, Olave is a very good high floor, high ceiling target for all fantasy football formats. He is right on the cusp of elite status and this very well could be the year he makes that leap. Don’t miss out on Olave this season in any format. You should feel comfortable selecting him at any point in the 2nd round. Moreover, don’t be afraid to spend up for Olave in dynasty, he will be well worth the investment as he will be a WR1 option for many years to come.
