CJ Stroud Fantasy Outlook 2024 – Sell High in Dynasty?

0

As the 2024 fantasy football season approaches, C.J. Stroud is a hot quarterback name in the fantasy football community. And rightfully so. After an impressive rookie season, Stroud has elevated himself into the elite QB1 conversation. Now we must ask: is Stroud worth his current price tag? Today, I’ll be breaking down the CJ Stroud Fantasy outlook for 2024 and beyond.

In this article, I’ll dive into Stroud’s 2024 fantasy football outlook, analyzing his previous performances, current team dynamics, and potential for the upcoming season. I’ll also explore his strengths and potential red flags and compare him to other quarterbacks in the league. Whether you’re contemplating drafting or trading for him in your dynasty league, this comprehensive analysis will help you decide whether Stroud can prove to be an elite quarterback this season. Let’s get right to it.

QB CJ Stroud Fantasy Outlook

Heading into his second season in the NFL, Stroud is ready to build on a successful rookie year. Stroud was the number two overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. He took being passed on by the Panthers, who took Bryce Young, personally and went on to dominate Young in every major stat category.

Last year, Stroud had 4,108 passing yards and 23 passing touchdowns. Additionally, he added 167 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Notably, Stroud led the NFL in touchdown-to-interception ratio, throwing only 5 interceptions as a rookie. Impressive, to say the least.

Stroud’s 4,108 passing yards were the third most all-time for a rookie. Needless to say, Stroud had an outstanding rookie season, and he is hoping to continue on an upward trend in 2024.

This offseason, the Texans traded for former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs. With the addition of Diggs, the Texans have built an offense that can keep up with any team in the league.

CJ Stroud Fantasy Outlook (2024)

Heading into 2024, Stroud is being valued as the QB6 overall. This price tag is considered too high after finishing as the QB11 in 2023. Rushing upside is king in fantasy football, and Stroud doesn’t provide any rushing ceiling.

Quarterbacks like Kyler Murray and Jayden Daniels offer elite rushing upside several rounds later. If you are keen on drafting a pocket passer, consider Joe Burrow or even Jared Goff late in drafts.

CJ Stroud Dynasty Football Outlook

In Dynasty fantasy football leagues, Stroud is valued as the QB4 according to Keep Trade Cut‘s crowdsourced dynasty rankings. There is no denying Stroud’s talent, but valuing him as the QB3 might be premature. While he looked amazing in his rookie season, he still finished as the QB11 overall. QB11 is a far cry from the QB3 price tag that Stroud carries. That bodes the question, should you sell high on Stroud?

While it’s great to have young talent in dynasty leagues, there is no reason to pay a top-shelf price for Stroud. Amazingly, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is valued as the QB5 in dynasty. If you haven’t been paying attention, Hurts has finished as a top-three fantasy quarterback for two consecutive years. Don’t overthink it. If you have Stroud, see if you can acquire Hurts. Stroud will likely never provide the same upside that Hurts can offer year to year.

That said, Stroud is still going to be a great dynasty asset. We love quarterbacks who are tied to elite wide receivers, and Stroud will be throwing to Tank Dell and Nico Collins for at least the next three seasons! In the end, it comes down to your team structure and what you might be able to get in return for Stroud.

Conclusion

Overall, Stroud is a fantastic quarterback who is a bit overvalued in fantasy. For redraft purposes, Stroud is a player I am looking to avoid. In dynasty leagues, I am not enthusiastic about his QB3 price tag. If I have him on my team, he isn’t going anywhere unless I receive a substantial return. However, if I am in a startup draft, I will be avoiding him in the first five picks.
