Scouting the Nation – Latest College Football Risers

This week, we are featuring two talented young players. The first is a young safety from the University of Utah. Next, we have a talented young center from Ohio State. Continue reading to learn about these talented young college football players and find out why they’re risers as of late.

Tao Johnson DS Utah

The best defensive player on the Utes, Tao Johnson is incredibly impressive for a true sophomore. He started as a true freshman, recording 33 tackles and five pass breakups, lining up primarily as a slot cornerback.

This season, Johnson has played a lot of deep free safety, where he has been excellent. Johnson displays impressive sideline-to-sideline range and high-end foot speed. He can close the distance very quickly and break down to make a play on the ball carrier.

Furthermore, Johnson is incredibly fluid and can play man-to-man on opposing wide receivers or tight ends. With teams looking for versatile safeties that can do a lot, Johnson is going to be coveted by a lot of defensive coordinators. It is still early, but Johnson will be a highly sought-after safety whenever he declares for the NFL Draft.

Seth McLaughlin C Ohio State

A great portal pickup for Ohio State, Seth McLaughlin has been the anchor for a top-five team in the country. He checks every box teams look for in a center prospect. Additionally, he plays with good technique, is athletic, and has several years of starting experience. When watching his film each week, the biggest thing that stands out is how consistent he is.

Furthermore, McLaughlin is good when working to the second level and in space, while possessing the power to displace defensive tackles at the line of scrimmage. He handles bull rushers with ease and keeps his hands in tight in pass protection. McLaughlin projects as an early career starting center, who will play in the league for a long time. With the way he’s played as of late, McLaughlin is one of the top college football risers and wraps up this edition of Scouting the Nation.
