Scouting the Nation – 2 Star College Football Linemen
Greg Johnson C Minnesota
Left tackle Aireontae Ersery got a lot of attention along the Minnesota offensive line this year. However, Johnson’s tape showed a player with even more upside.
Johnson is an excellent athlete, possessing high-level foot quickness and movement skills. Notably, he does a great job of getting out in space and was impressive as a zone blocker. Johnson’s size and 2023 experience at guard will give him the versatility to play there at the next level, too.
Ultimately, my favorite part about Johnson’s tape was how much he improved over the course of the season. Things really slowed down for him, and another leap will put him in contention to be an All-American center next year.
Ryan Baer OT Pitt
One of the more under-the-radar players in the country, Ryan Baer’s tape was awesome this past season. He is an explosive player with natural pop in his hands on contact. Additionally, Baer has experience playing both left and right tackle, and his skill set should also allow him to kick inside to guard if needed.
Overall, there is legitimate starting potential at four spots in the NFL with Baer. He is a people mover in the run game, with the power to displace defenders with ease. Furthermore, Baer moves with great control to the second level and is effective at sustaining blocks on linebackers there. All things considered, Baer is a 2nd round player right now, with the ability to elevate his stock with another good year.
