Dak Prescott 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Path To QB1?
The 2024 fantasy football season is quickly approaching, and managers in fantasy leagues will hopefully be drafting their championship teams within the next few weeks. One player who may have helped fantasy teams win their leagues last year is the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott.
In this article, we’ll dive into Prescott’s 2024 fantasy football value, analyzing last year’s performance, his current team dynamics, and his potential for the upcoming season. I’ll explore his strengths and areas of concern. Whether you’re contemplating drafting him, trading for him or trading him to another manager in your dynasty league, this comprehensive analysis will help you make an informed decision on whether Prescott can maintain his QB1 status and propel you to a championship.
QB Dak Prescott Fantasy Football Outlook
After a somewhat disappointing 2022 season, Dak had one of his best statistical seasons as a pro in 2023. He led all quarterbacks with thirty-six passing touchdowns and finished as the QB4 (Weeks 1-17). Prescott’s season was so good, that until the final quarter of the season, he was in the conversation alongside Lamar Jackson for league MVP.
Dak Prescott 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Head coach Mike McCarthy and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer return as Prescott’s offensive brain trust. Dallas did lose offensive linemen Tyler Biadasz and Tyron Smith to free agency, however, they drafted their probable replacements in Tyler Guyton (round 1) and Cooper Beebe (round 3).
Prescott offers very little value as a runner and the majority of his fantasy production will come as a passer. The WR1 overall in fantasy last year CeeDee Lamb, receiver Brandin Cooks, and tight end Jake Ferguson all return as Prescott’s primary weapons.
There is uncertainty in the Dallas backfield as they moved on from Tony Pollard in the offseason and replaced him with Royce Freeman, 29-year-old Ezekiel Elliott, and incumbent Rico Dowdle. While Elliott’s best days are behind him, one must wonder if he was brought in to specifically handle the red zone touches that Pollard struggled with last year. However, if Elliott can find success running in the red zone where Pollard couldn’t, this may adversely affect Prescott, as he may be forced to throw less in the red zone.
Dynasty Football Outlook
The 31-year-old’s dynasty ADP is QB14. The only other quarterback over thirty in the top 24 ADP ranking is 31-year-old Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons. Entering your thirties is certainly no death knell for quarterbacks, as many have been productive well into their mid-thirties. But it is no surprise that dynasty managers prefer younger signal callers.
Prescott is entering the last year of his contract and interestingly enough, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has yet to extend him. As such, he is set to be a free agent after this season.
The lack of certainty in Prescott’s future may scare some managers away, but even if he were to hit free agency in 2025, teams like the New York Giants, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, and possibly the Los Angeles Rams could interest and be productive fantasy landing spots. Check out where he’s ranked in our latest dynasty fantasy football rankings.
Conclusion
Dak’s current ADP in a redraft league is QB9. He is more than a serviceable quarterback in a 1QB league and one you can draft between rounds 5-7, allowing you to focus on drafting other important positions in the earlier rounds.
