DeAndre Hopkins Trade Rumors – Fantasy Outlook
NFL Insider Albert Breer is reporting that the Arizona Cardinals have granted veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins permission to seek a trade.
Fantasy Football Outlook: Hopkins trade rumors have been a thing all off-season. However, he is still with the Cardinals for the time being. There are two reasons why a player like Hopkins is not garnering a lot of buzz from potential suitors. Current contract and trade compensation.
Currently, a new NFL team would absorb $19.5 million in 2023 and $14.9 million in 2024 if they traded for Hopkins and did not come to terms on a new agreement. When it comes to price, the Cardinals may want too much, especially since now there are rumors circulating that the team could cut the former All-Pro wideout with a post-June 1 designation. Going that route would save Arizona $19.45 million in cap space this season.
Hopkins has been linked to numerous teams this offseason, including the Browns, Cowboys, Bills, and Patriots. It seems like people are trying to connect the dots with either team needs or past personnel connections while there is really nothing set in stone to go off of.
With offseason workouts set to begin this week, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon was noncommital on whether or not Hopkins would attend these voluntary sessions. Hopkins to show up to voluntary workouts is a bet I would not make, all things considered.
If Hopkins is indeed traded, look for a deal to be struck during the 2023 NFL Draft. But if teams around the NFL truly believe he could be cut, then we may not see any movement until closer to when NFL Training Camp commences in July.
