Dynasty Faceoff – Keep Trade Cut Dynasty 2025: Week 2

0

Welcome back to another edition of Dynasty Faceoff – Keep Trade Cut Dynasty 2025 for Week 2. Each week during the NFL regular season, we will analyze a position group from a strictly dynasty fantasy football perspective.

Using various dynasty rankings throughout the season, we’ll differentiate the value between three assets within that position group. The players will be ranked consecutively and of similar age (within three years), providing an outlook on who to keep, trade, or cut in your dynasty leagues.

For this exercise, the player who would be deemed the most valuable for the near and long term will be the “Keep”, while our player to “Trade” holds a tremendous near-term value. However, it may be prudent to maximize their trade value at that time.

Finally, the “Cut” is the asset that holds the least amount of current value in the trio, and is a player who may be seeing a diminishing role on his team or shows signs of value regression soon.

Keep Trade Cut Dynasty 2025: Week 2

During our Week 2 Keep, Trade, Cut outlook, we are taking a look at three running backs who have spent their careers near the very top for fantasy football output. We are taking a look at Derrick Henry, Alvin Kamara, and Joe Mixon, who are the current RB22, RB23, and RB24 in FootballGuys.com’s consensus rankings. Let’s get right into it.

Keep: RB24 Joe Mixon – Houston Texans

During the 2024 offseason, the Houston Texans massively upgraded the talent in their backfield by acquiring veteran RB Joe Mixon. Mixon comes in as the weeks keep due to his strong Week 1 performance, plus the benefit of being the youngest in this trio at 28 years old. Mixon’s scorching hot start with 159 rushing yards was encouraging, along with his 30-carry game to prove the trust and volume are already present in this offseason acquisition.

With Mixon signing a two-year extension following his move to the Texans, RB24 would be a great RB2 price point for a player who should find himself within the top 10 at running back each week. For contenders, Mixon offers an appealing three-year window to compete and has already shown he can put up big games with Houston.

However, if you aren’t competing, things look a bit different. Mixon should return value as long as he’s healthy and is a sell-high candidate throughout this season and perhaps deep into 2025. Mixon is an ideal asset to own in dynasty football this 2024 season, no matter which direction your fantasy team must ultimately head into.

Trade: RB23 Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints came out firing on offense in Week 1 of the NFL season. As expected, leading the way at running back was long-time starter Alvin Kamara. While Kamara only saw the field for a little over half of the Saints offensive snaps, Kamara was able to supply a touchdown rushing. Additionally, he provided his typical threat through the air with five catches.

Kamara will be expected to lead this offense along with Chris Olave. This means that dynasty fantasy football managers will likely be hesitant to trade Kamara right now. However, at 29 years old, plus one final additional year with New Orleans in 2025, managers must wonder how good the Kamara trade market is within their league.

With the amount of investment towards Kamara within the offense, he should be able to provide plenty of boom weeks here in 2024. Similar to Mixon as we earlier discussed, Kamara also has a perfect opportunity to be a sell-high candidate anytime starting now in dynasty football leagues.

Cut: RB22 Derrick Henry

Strangely, the oldest rusher in this trio also currently sits as the RB22 in these rankings. This means that experts in the dynasty space still believe in the upside of Derrick Henry in Baltimore. Even above the other two listed assets, who are younger.

Henry proved to be very efficient with his singular red zone touch in Week 1, registering a five-yard touchdown against the Chiefs. As Henry’s red zone touches potentially grow week to week, he would then offer plenty of redraft value in 2024. On the other hand, he could very well see his role drastically change from his days in Tennessee. Notably, signaled by a 13-touch game on opening night.

Henry is never an afterthought in a fantasy football lineup. However, his exact upside this year and long term is difficult to envision at this time. Now in 2024, as one of the best running backs to play in his generation, Henry may only be the second-most threatening rusher in this Baltimore backfield. Lamar Jackson was able to explode for 122 yards rushing in the opening game, poaching those late-game large gains a player like Henry was accustomed to in Tennessee.

Ultimately, Henry will be a floor option in 2024 if he continues his play from opening night. Additionally, as an RB2 price according to these rankings, selling Henry along may be the shrewd and logical decision soon.

Keep Trade Cut – Final Thoughts

All three of these running backs are defying the running back cliff due to their immense talent, with each still producing well into their late 20s. None of these names feel easy to trade, especially due to their starting status in each case. Every dynasty roster is different and these old backs may be the final trade pieces you’ve been waiting to trade at that perfect time.

Conversely, now may be a good time to pay up for a Kamara or a Mixon after the production looked promising to start the year. In other words, Henry’s sell-high window may be closed while a new Mixon window may be opening, providing a value boost despite his advanced age.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll have a more clear idea of where these three backs stand in their offenses. Additionally, we very well could see these players ranked similarly throughout the 2024 season as the dynasty progresses. Next week we will take a look at another position as we preview Week 3 through the long-term dynasty lens.
