3 Dynasty Sell-High Candidates 2025: Tight Ends to Sell

0

When it comes to dynasty sell-high candidates, knowing when to move on from a player is a critical skill in dynasty fantasy football. In the end, it can make or break your team’s long-term success. Today, I’ll break down 3 dynasty sell-high tight ends to sell during this off-season.

Dynasty Sell-High Candidates 2025: Tight Ends

The challenge in managing your dynasty league football roster lies in deciding how long to hold onto a player and when to trade them at their peak value. Timing is everything. More importantly, identifying players whose value may soon decline can give you a strategic edge over your competition. Continue reading for my 3 dynasty sell-high tight end candidates for this off-season.

George Kittle – San Francisco 49ers

Other than his rookie year in 2017 and 2020 where he missed 8 games, George Kittle has never finished worse than TE4. Travis Kelce gets all the accolades. However, Kittle has been an absolute stud in his own right. Notably, his past finishes have been as the TE3, TE4, TE3, TE4, TE4, and the TE1 last year in 2024 from Weeks 1-17.

So, why sell a player who has shown remarkable elite consistency at a position that lacks depth? Why not keep a player who can clearly give you an edge at a position where there are truly only a handful of difference-makers? The simple answer is – opportunity.

Other than the rookie phenom Brock Bowers and perhaps Trey McBride of the Arizona Cardinals, nobody else at the tight end position had an elite fantasy year. Kittle was the TE1 averaging 13.9 fantasy points per game which would have had him tied with the WR13, Davante Adams. Impressively, the 13.9 average fantasy points per game was the highest in Kittle’s career.

Furthermore, the 49ers had key injuries all season long with their offensive players. Notably, Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk. To go along with inefficient play from Deebo Samuel. In the end, Kittle had the most receptions and yards since the 2019 season. Between the injuries and Kittle remaining healthy himself, it was the perfect storm scenario for him to produce.

Will the 2025 season be the same? McCaffrey and Aiyuk will be back along with ascending rookie Ricky Pearsall. Having better offensive players around Kittle may mean less attention to the star tight end. However, it could also mean fewer looks and ultimately, fantasy football production.

Finally, Kittle will be turning 32 years old in October of next season. A few more productive years for Kittle is a definite possibility. However, as the saying goes in dynasty fantasy football, “I would rather be a year early, than a year late.”

Travis Kelce – Kansas City Chiefs

From 2016 to 2024, Kelece’s worst finish was this past season as the TE6. Other than 2024, he had five seasons as the TE1 and three as the TE2. For what it’s worth, one of them he was just 0.2 points behind the TE1, Mark Andrews. Kelce’s dominance at the tight end position in real-life football and in fantasy is truly remarkable. Perhaps, one that may never be seen again. Having Kelce on your roster truly gave you a competitive edge at the position that was difficult for your league mates to overcome.

Unfortunately for Kelce, Father Time is undefeated. The combination of age, wear, and tear has finally caught up to him. He will be turning 36 next October. Additionally, if anyone has watched a Chiefs game this season, especially the Super Bowl, you can clearly tell that he is not the dominant force that he used to be.

In my 2024 fantasy football tight end recap article where I went over the top 10 tight end performances of the year, Kelce was not part of the list. In fact his teammate Noah Gray had a top 10 performance and not Kelce. Unfortunately, he had his worst per-game average this season at 9.2 fantasy points since his sophomore season in 2014. In the end, he just experienced a season where had a career-low in touchdowns, yards, and receiving yards per game.

Finally, there are rumors that Kelce may retire. However, he is unlikely to make such an important decision right away. Even if he decides to return for another year, I would look to trade the Future Hall of Famer while he still has some value left.

Sam LaPorta – Detroit Lions

Standout TE Sam LaPorta shocked the fantasy football community in 2023 with his TE1 overall finish. Most experts expected this result from first-round pick Dalton Kincaid of the Buffalo Bills. Not LaPorta. In 2024, LaPorta was being drafted as either the TE1 or TE2 along with Kelce. If you wanted to have him on your roster, you were most likely using a 2nd round pick to acquire the sophomore and former Iowa Hawkeye. Needless to say, the price was a premium.

Unfortunately, if you drafted LaPorta in 2024, you were disappointed for the majority of the season. From Weeks 1-9, he was the TE15 overall and the TE18 averaging 6.6 fantasy points per game. Notably, he had only two games of double-digit fantasy points and had less than five points in four contests.

Meanwhile, the second half of the season was closer to LaPorta’s rookie season. From Weeks 10-17, he was the TE6 overall and the TE8 averaging 11.7 fantasy points per game. LaPorta’s improved play also coincided with the Detroit Lions’ defense being decimated by injury and Goff and the offense playing in weekly shootouts.

In the end, LaPorta finished the 2024 season as the TE7 overall and the TE9 averaging 9 fantasy points per game. A far cry from his rookie season last year, where he finished the 2023 season as the TE1 overall and in average points per game (11.6).

The big question for next year is which version of LaPorta will you be drafting? The first half 2024 version that disappointed or the second half version that was closer to his 2023 season?

With the defense being fully healthy to start the 2025 season, I would expect the Lions to go back to their dominant run game with their one-two punch in Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. It is no coincidence that LaPorta had nearly 40 fewer targets last year compared to his rookie season. LaPorta has to compete with receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams who had a breakout campaign in 2024 for targets. There are also rumors of the Lions possibly trying to acquire receiver Cooper Kupp from the Los Angeles Rams.

Ultimately, is LaPorta a top-five dynasty league football tight end? Probably. However, for the foreseeable future, I don’t envision him being an elite option at the position like he was in 2023.

Personally, I would be more than happy to have LaPorta on my roster. However, I would look to sell LaPorta to a manager in your league who still thinks that he is an upper-echelon tight end in the dynasty football landscape. He may be in for a few more years of production similar to that of his 2024 season. Overall, there are just too many weapons on this offense and he may be closer to a low-end TE1 rather than the TE1 overall unless major changes occur to this Lions team.
