4 Dynasty Buy-Low Targets 2025: Quarterbacks to Trade For
Dynasty fantasy football is a year-round grind. Analyzing your rosters, identifying trade partners, and player values are constant tasks in dynasty fantasy football leagues. If you’ve played in them, you know the action goes on well beyond the regular season. Today, we’ll evaluate 4 dynasty buy-low quarterbacks to trade for ahead of the 2025 fantasy football season.
Dynasty Buy-Low Targets 2025: Quarterbacks
As the 2025 NFL offseason unfolds, dynasty fantasy football managers are looking for value in the trade market. Every year, certain quarterbacks become undervalued due to injury concerns, team situations, or recency bias. The key to building a long-term contender is identifying those players before their value bounces back. Here are 4 quarterbacks you should be targeting in dynasty leagues before the 2025 NFL Draft arrives.
Justin Fields QB New York Jets
After being benched by the Pittsburgh Steelers last season in week 7 for Russell Wilson, Justin Fields was looking to move on from his one-year experience in Steeltown. During the offseason, he signed a two-year $40 million dollar deal ($15 million guaranteed) with the New York Jets, all but cementing him as their starting quarterback for at least the 2025 season.
Unfortunately, Fields’ time in Pittsburgh was short-lived. However, during a 6-week span where he was the starter, he was the QB6. Impressively, averaging almost 20 points per game (19.1).
Additionally, in 2023 with the Chicago Bears, Fields was the QB8 in average fantasy points per game (19.2). In 2022, he finished as the QB5 (Weeks 1-17), averaging 20.5 fantasy points per game.
Between 2022-2024, Joe Burrow and Justin Fields have started exactly 44 games each. Surprisingly, Burrow has averaged less than 1 fantasy point per game (20.2) than Fields (19.3) during that span. Yet, Burrow is a consensus top 5 dynasty quarterback, whereas Fields is barely a QB2.
You don’t have to be a “good” NFL quarterback to be a good fantasy football quarterback. The risk with Fields is high, as he may only be the starter for the Jets for a year or two. However, the reward and his ceiling is enormous. Fields has the potential to be a top 5 fantasy football quarterback if everything goes right.
Caleb Williams QB Chicago Bears
Needless to say, the 2024 1st overall pick did not live up to expectations. He was overlooked all year by the offensive rookie of the year, Jayden Daniels. Caleb Williams finished the season as the QB16 overall but as the QB24 on a points per game basis (15.3).
Additionally, Williams was sacked a league-high 68 times last year (16 more than C.J. Stroud). Part of that was the poor offensive line play, and part of it was Williams holding on to the football too long.
However, not all is doom and gloom for the sophomore quarterback. After offensive coordinator Shane Waldron was fired in week 10, Williams finished as the QB12 from Weeks 11-18, demonstrating that he was more comfortable in the second half of the season. As well, Williams showed a willingness to run with the football as he almost rushed for 500 yards in 2024.
Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was a highly sought-after coach during the last two offseasons and had many teams clamoring over him. Yet, he chose to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears. There is hope that Johnson and the coaching staff can unlock Williams’ potential.
Furthermore, the Bears fixed their offensive line in the offseason by signing former Atlanta Falcons center Drew Dalman to a 3-year deal. They also traded for All-Pro guard Joe Thuney and Pro Bowler Jonah Jackson, who played under Ben Johnson in Detroit. Additionally, the Bears could also add to their offensive line with the 10th overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. Check out our latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft to see who the Bears took.
As a fantasy football community, I think we forget that rookie quarterback seasons like Stroud in 2023 and Daniels last year are the outliers and not the norm. The quarterback position is the most difficult one to play in the NFL and can take a young player a few years to adapt to and excel at.
With an improved offensive line, a new offensive-minded head coach, and surrounded by explosive offensive weapons in Odunze, Moore, Kmet, and Swift, year two could very well be Williams’ breakout. His price is still going to be high due to his youth, but there might be a bit of buy-low window right now.
Trevor Lawrence QB Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence, the former Clemson Tiger, has struggled to live up to the expectations that come with being the 1st overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. Each year, he seems to be a popular breakout candidate and just doesn’t quite get there.
During his first four years in the league, Lawrence finished as the QB22 in 2021, QB8 in 2022, QB13 in 2023, and QB11 in 2024 (from Weeks 1-9 as the starter). Other than his rookie year (which we can forgive since Urban Meyer was his head coach), Lawrence has essentially been a borderline QB1 for fantasy football purposes. Ultimately, that’s not bad for most quarterbacks, but not for a former 1st overall pick.
During the offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars hired former Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator Liam Cohen. Duval jokes aside, Cohen joins the Jaguars coaching staff with high hopes and one that led former 1st overall pick Baker Mayfield to be the QB3 in 2024 for Tampa Bay.
In his four years in the NFL, Lawrence has averaged a sneaky 3.5 touchdowns and almost 300 rushing yards per year. There is hope that Cohen and the coaching staff will have Lawrence tap more into his rushing ability as he did in his college days at Clemson.
The Jaguars do have a potential out in Lawrence’s contract in 2029, but at a minimum, Lawrence will be a Jaguar for the next 4 years. Lawrence is only 25 years old and will be fully healthy entering the 2025 season. He has an offensive-minded coach who will hopefully use all of Lawrence’s talents and has rookie phenom Brian Thomas Jr. to throw the ball to.
Notably, his current dynasty ADP is as a low-end QB2. At worst, Lawrence is a borderline QB1 with the potential to return much more.
Dak Prescott QB Dallas Cowboys
In 2024, Dak Prescott was limited to eight games and missed the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. Those eight games were underwhelming, as he averaged 16 points per game and was the QB19.
However, Prescott enters the 2024 season fully healthy but seems to be an afterthought in the fantasy community. Recently, when Prescott has played an entire season, he has finished as the QB2 in 2019 (21.8 fantasy points per game), QB7 in 2021 (20.7), and QB3 in 2023 (20.7).
Furthermore, Prescott will be 32 years of age. Overall, that’s not old considering the level of play of recent older quarterbacks. He is tied to the Dallas Cowboys for at least another three more years (the Cowboys have an expensive out clause in Prescott’s contract for 2028). Additionally, he has an elite WR1 to throw to in CeeDee Lamb. Finally, many have highly touted rookie receivers Tetairoa McMillan or Matthew Golden, mocked to Dallas with the 12th overall pick in the upcoming draft.
It is well within the realm of possibility for Prescott to have a QB1 season in 2025 and beyond. Strike now while the price is relatively cheap.
Conclusion
Dynasty fantasy football is all about playing the long game and taking advantage of buy-low opportunities. Every quarterback on this list has seen their value drop or is an afterthought in the fantasy community. However, they all have the potential to rebound in 2025 and beyond. Take advantage of these dynasty buy-low quarterbacks before the 2025 NFL Draft, and the door slams shut permanently.
