With the NFL offseason frenzy well underway, we here at the Faceoff Sports Network think it’s time to focus on optimizing your dynasty team! In this article, I’ll talk about some wide receivers with promising futures that you should consider trading for. Let’s get right into it with Dynasty Football Buys: Wide Receivers.

Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders

2021 PPR Finish: WR25 | Age: 26

“Scary” Terry McLaurin will undoubtedly command (pun intended) the biggest return of anyone on this list, but I think it’ll cost you less than you may expect. People are bummed out about Washington going out and trading for Carson Wentz, but I think this actually helps out McLaurin. In the last five years in games, he’s started, Wentz has produced a Top-17 WR or a Top-3 TE in four out of five years. Pittman finished as WR15 last year, if Ertz was a WR he would’ve finished as WR22 in 2019 and WR9 in 2018, and Alshon Jefferey was WR17 in 2017. Wentz finds his guy and relies on him a lot. McLaurin will be that guy in 2022. It’s also likely that Washington will add another wide receiver in the NFL Draft or in free agency to go along with McLaurin and Curtis Samuel.

Chase Claypool, Pittsburgh Steelers

2021 PPR Finish: 37 | Age: 23

Chase Claypool had a disappointing 2021 season, but his upside is still sky-high. We all know he’s a freak athlete, but Pittsburgh did not use him as a deep threat at all last year. Ben Roethlisberger was unable to push the ball down the field, and that limited Claypool’s biggest asset, which is his big-play ability. He got 1.4 deep targets a game last year, and a good portion of those were not accurate throws. Whoever Pittsburgh brings in at QB is going to be better than Big Ben was last year. He should be getting more accurate targets AND should be getting more targets if WR JuJu Smith-Schuster leaves in free agency.

Tim Patrick, Denver Broncos

2021 PPR Finish: 42 | Age: 28

This one’s pretty obvious as Tim Patrick is going from catching passes from Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock to catching passes from Russell Wilson. I think he’ll be the cheapest of the Broncos trio (Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton) to acquire, but maybe he shouldn’t be. He outproduced Sutton last year and is more of a downfield threat than Jeudy is. The Broncos rewarded the undrafted Patrick with a huge contract extension, so he’s locked in to be a huge part of a hopefully high-powered offense led by one of the game’s best quarterbacks for a few years.

Cedrick Wilson, Free Agent

2021 PPR Finish: 45 | Age: 26

Aside from a two-catch outing in a 56-14 routing of Washington, Cedrick Wilson caught 13 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown in two games where he filled in for the injured CeeDee Lamb for the Cowboys in 2021. Dallas is reportedly looking to trade or cut veteran WR Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup is also a free agent. If Dallas brings Wilson back, he’ll move into a much bigger role and we’ve seen what he can do with more opportunities already. If not, he will likely get good money to be a bigger focal point elsewhere. Really it’s a win-win scenario for Wilson’s value in 2022 and beyond.

Laviska Shenault Jr, Jacksonville Jaguars

2021 PPR Finish: 56 | Age: 23

Laviska Shenault Jr had a miserable 2021 season and had a number of obstacles he ultimately couldn’t overcome. The then-sophomore was banged up a lot, had a rookie quarterback, a disastrous head coach, and was fighting for targets in a stagnant offense. Coming into 2022, Shenault’s got a better head coach, his quarterback is a year older and hopefully better, and the Jaguars will probably let wide receiver DJ Chark walk in free agency. Shenault will have more opportunities in 2022 to live up to his hype of an exciting versatile prospect.

Gabriel Davis, Buffalo Bills

2021 PPR Finish: 58 | Age: 22

We all remember Gabriel Davis for his unreal four-touchdown performance in the Bills playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he actually had some really solid games towards the end of the 2021 regular season as well. He had seven or more targets in three of his last four games and also added three touchdowns in those games. With the 22-year-old breaking out so loudly in that playoff game, I’d imagine it makes Buffalo’s decisions on free agent wide receivers Cole Beasley and Emmanuel Sanders a lot easier. Davis should be the clear-cut WR2 for Josh Allen and the Bills in 2022.

Rondale Moore, Arizona Cardinals

2021 PPR Finish: 66 | Age: 21

Rondale Moore showed flashes of brilliance in his rookie season, but much like his whole team struggled to stay consistent. He also went through a couple of injury situations and ultimately missed the last 3 games of the regular season. The highly-touted prospect struggled to see consistent playing time as the Cardinals had a crowded WR room. That room becomes way less crowded with Christian Kirk and AJ Green both expected to sign elsewhere. Moore should see a significant uptick in playing time in 2022 and as long as he stays healthy, should put up big numbers in a fun and fast offense.
