Dynasty Rookie Profile: Sean Tucker

Running Back – Syracuse

5’10, 205 lbs

Strengths

Sean Tucker is a Syracuse running back and an intriguing prospect in the 2023 rookie class. He has shown soft hands and excels in open space with the ball in his hands. He has great stop-start ability, which allows him to create initial separation. In addition, Tucker has shown excellent production this year in the receiving game but needs to become more consistent.

Tucker has very good explosiveness, which gives him big play potential. On top of all this, he has good footwork with quick feet. Tucker is a hard runner in between the tackles despite his size. His explosiveness and speed should be on full display at the upcoming NFL Combine

Weaknesses

As far as weaknesses go, Tucker has some size concerns measuring 5’10 and 205 pounds. This isn’t extremely small, but it will likely prevent Tucker from becoming a workhorse back in the NFL. Furthermore, Tucker isn’t a power-back or a very good blocker. These weaknesses could prevent him from being a three-down back in the NFL.

While Tucker has good hands and has looked solid as a pass catcher, he lacks consistency in the area. While Tucker has shown soft hands at times, he also has had numerous drops and a bad habit of catching the ball with his body.

NFL Fit and Draft Capital

Tucker is expected to go around Round 3 in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. If he ends up with that type of draft capital, it would appear an NFL team views him as a decent long-term depth piece. Some of the spots he’s projected to land thus far are the Cardinals, Seahawks, and Steelers.

The Seahawks wouldn’t be a good fit, as Tucker would be stuck behind Kenneth Walker, who is turning into a three-down back. This would make little sense, but Tucker’s role would be minimal if it does happen. Likewise, the Steelers wouldn’t be great for Tucker as they also have a young running back in Najee Harris. Even though Harris hasn’t looked great this year, he still has 1st Round draft capital and was a very good three-down back in his rookie year.

On the other hand, the Cardinals could be a fantastic spot for Tucker. While early on, he’ll be playing behind James Conner, he can get on the field during some passing downs. Conner is also 27 and approaching the running back cliff, so Tucker would be the long-term option with the potential to be a three-down back after Conner leaves. This could be a very good fit for Tucker in the long term.

Overall, Tucker is an excellent player who needs to polish up aspects of his game but has fantastic potential. It should be noted that Tucker can be a very solid player, but his value heavily depends on his landing spot in the 2023 NFL Draft.
