FanDuel GPP Picks – Week 9
Last week was a chalk week, meaning a lot of the higher-owned players scored the points. Weeks like that are rough for GPP tournament players who don’t mass enter. If you don’t mass enter you more than likely won’t have a chalk lineup because we are going specifically for the takedown of a tournament. So our seasons are generally hit or miss.
It’s sometimes difficult to hit on these GPP tournaments, but it’s what I enjoy the most in DFS. If you’ve never tried FanDuel, sign up today and make your first deposit to receive a sign-up bonus here. Let’s get into this week’s picks for GPP tournaments on FanDuel.
Quarterbacks
Justin Herbert – $7,800
I know Herbert has struggled in games this year, most of them to be honest. But he hasn’t been Russell Wilson bad, I mean I haven’t heard of him doing sweatin’ to the oldies on the plane ride yet so I think we have maybe a few more weeks of hope that he snaps out of it and returns to 2021 Herbert. This week he faces the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons just allowed 317 yards passing to PJ Walker and that receiving group (aside from DJ Moore who is actually good).
One of the scary parts here is that more than likely Herbert’s top two receiving options will be out, Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. It looks like Josh Palmer is good to go so his top three this week will be Palmer, DeAndre Carter, and Gerald Everett. Oh and that Ekeler guy, you know the one that had 28 targets over the past two weeks. The hobbled receiving group and not-so-desirable fantasy points thus far by Herbert should keep ownership sub 10% which is always nice. He’s locked in my player pool, I’d advise the same for you.
Geno Smith – $7,500
After a couple of subpar fantasy weeks, Geno Smith scored over 19 FanDuel points, very close to his GPP target score to win (GPP TSW). The Vegas data for this game points to a high scoring back and forth game which is what we hope for. The Arizona defense has allowed the quarterback to hit their GPP target score to cash (GPP TSC) 5 of 8 weeks and 2 of 8 weeks have allowed the quarterback to exceed their GPP TSW.
Running Backs
Austin Ekeler – $9,400
I wrote up Herbert earlier and due to the Chargers missing their two best receivers I wouldn’t be opposed to pairing Ekeler with Herbert. The Falcons also allow 4.4 YPC to opposing running backs so Ekeler could have a good day on the ground, in the air, or both. I think with Herbert getting right Ekeler should have the opportunity to score at least once in this game. Ekeler also leads the Chargers in red zone rushing attempts and targets.
Rhamondre Stevenson- $8,000
Stevenson has become a solid RB option over the past few weeks scoring 23.1, 19.8, and 17.8 over the last three weeks. This week Damien Harris has been out of practice (Illness) so it could very well be Stevenson handling the full workload. The Colts are allowing an average of 120 rushing yards at 4 YPC and the Patriots rush almost 50% so Stevenson should have the touches to get within our TS range.
Travis Etienne – $7,600
This is the third week in a row that I’m writing up Travis Etienne and I must admit it feels boring but sometimes it works out that way. Etienne has become a vital part of the Jaguars offense, an offense that will need to put up some points at home against the Raiders. You may see Etienne mentioned a bit later in the article as well so don’t be surprised.
Wide Receivers
DeAndre Hopkins – $8,600
Hopkins has been the obvious favorite target since returning from suspension getting 27 targets, 22 receptions for 262 yards, and one touchdown. They face Seattle this week and the over/under is 49 points with Arizona projected to score 25.5 points. I think Murray will continue to target Hopkins often and as we saw earlier in his career Hopkins can handle the workload and any matchup they send his way.
Tyler Boyd – $6,900
Joe Burrow has thrown for over 20 completions and 35 pass attempts in all but one week this year. If that trend continues Boyd will have his share of targets and the chance to score. I am a little concerned that this game gets out of hand and the Bengals won’t pass as much as we would like but I’m banking that the revived Panthers can keep it close enough for us.
Terrance Marshall – $5,400
Last week we crushed the wide receiver picks with Hopkins, Waddle, and DJ Moore. This week we’ll pivot from Moore to Marshall. As PJ Walker has gotten more comfortable Marshall received a nice bump in targets with 9, more than doubling his previous high of 4 targets in a week. Carolina is projected to be trailing so even if we get that garbage-time touchdown we’ll take it, hopefully, right to the bank. At only $5,400 we only need a line that resembles 6/80/1 to hit our TS for Marshall.
Tight Ends
Gerald Everett – $5,800
Yup, another Charger in this week’s write-up. As we went over earlier the Chargers are without their top two options and beyond that DeAndre Carter heads into Sunday with a questionable tag due to illness. They’ll have to throw the ball somewhere and Everett has been a regular option thus far so no reason to think it won’t continue. We also get a nice saving on your totally salary here as well using Everett in GPP tournaments.
Evan Engram – $5,200
Engram is averaging over 7 targets and almost 10 fantasy points per game over the last 4 games. Jacksonville has nice Vegas data the game should be close and high scoring if that data is correct. The Raiders are also allowing an average of over 15 fantasy points per game to tight ends which is good for the third worst in the league. As far as salary goes, he’s even better than Everett.
DST
New England Patriots – $4,900
I generally try to spend down as much as possible for my defense but unfortunately, that’s not working for me this week. Last week I was on Ehlinger, the young quarterback for the Colts, but last week he wasn’t playing against Bill Belichick. Belichick will probably throw some defenses at Ehlinger that he has no idea what’s coming. We only need one of those to shake him up and lead to a score.
GPP Stacks
Los Angeles Chargers @ Atlanta Falcons
As I write this article the ownership seems pretty low for Herbert and his receiving group. To get a little different I may very well run this Chargers stack as a QB/RB/WR or QB/RB/TE stack with a Drake London runback. Whichever way you choose to make up the stack I’ll leave it up to you but I would surely consider throwing at least one LAC stack in this week.
Las Vegas Raiders @ Jacksonville Jaguars
This one may make you sick to your stomach but the Vegas data is solid and neither team is the second coming of the Steel curtain. Much like the LAC stack, I may run this one with the Jaguars stack like QB/RB/TE or QB/RB/WR (Zay Jones). If I run it back with a Raiders receiver I may look at the low-priced Hunter Renfrow at only $5,400 in hopes that he gets closer to his targets in Week 1 and Week 2.
