Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups – Week 5 (2024)

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups – Week 5 (2024)

Last week, we identified five players to pick up that meet our waiver wire criteria. One player in particular, had an amazing week and has moved from 33% rostered to 60% since our Week 4 waiver wire article. That player is none other than Amed Rosario. Since last week he has a .320 OBP with a .260 batting average. He has the flexibility to play SS,2B, and OF. For now, he is a valuable player to have on your fantasy baseball rosters.

Stay with us as we identify players to target weekly for your roster to help you win a fantasy baseball championship. I’m not certain if we’ll see someone make a jump that big this week. If someone does, we will do our best to identify them for you.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups Week 5

As we move through the season our main goal is to identify players that don’t have a high percentage of ownership, particularly on FantasyPros. We will ensure that no player is rostered more than 40% in leagues to ensure that most of the guys listed are available. Additionally, we will make sure to have at least two players listed that are owned in 20% or less for deeper leagues.

Best Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds For 12 Team Leagues

The following players are the best fantasy baseball waiver wire adds for 12-team leagues in Week 5 and beyond. You can also target these players in other league sizes as well. However, keep in mind that ownership percentages will vary. Let’s get right into the top waiver wire pickups for your fantasy baseball leagues as we head into Week 5 of the 2024 MLB season!

Jacob Young (OF – Washington Nationals): 1%

If you are playing in a deep league consider looking at Jacob Young. Young is not an everyday player but he can provide speed to a team who needs help in this category. Notably, he is tied for 6th overall in the league with 8 stolen bases on the season. This is a guy who has 60 at-bats on the year. If he receives more constant playing time that number should go up significantly. He’s got a .333 batting average and is sporting a 400 BABIP.  This will be our first fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 5.

Joey Meneses (1B – Washington Nationals): 5%

To start the season Meneses was not great. But over the last 2 weeks, he’s been much better. He is 11th in the MLB in RBIs over the last 14 days. This is another player to consider, though he plays on the same team as the previous one. Meneses was a promising player coming into the majors in 2022. He has all the talent in the world and in a deeper format would be worth adding. This will be our second fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 5.

Ryan O’Hearn (1B/OF – Baltimore Orioles): 27%

O’Hearn has played very well over his last two weeks. He has a .355 OBP with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs. Additionally, there is the flexibility with O’Hearn who can play first base and the outfield. Baltimore is 15th in baseball for OBP so there is an opportunity to knock players in for O’Hearn. This will be this week’s third fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 6.

Yennier Cano (RP – Baltimore Orioles): 30%

So far, Cano has 6 holds on the season. As you can expect, if you are in a holds + saves league, he is certainly someone to consider. Yes, Kimbrel is the closer now. However, just like his time in Philadelphia last year, I don’t know if it will stay this way.

Furthermore, the Orioles just lost Sunday due to Kimbrel blowing a save after giving up a 2-run homer. Personally, I don’t know if he holds the job long with Cano right there to slide into that role. This will be this week’s fourth fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 6.

Slade Cecconi (SP – Arizona Diamondbacks): 1%

Cecconi delivered a strong performance in a loss for his second start of the year on Sunday. He only gave up 1 run on 3 hits while walking 1 batter. On top of those statistics, he struck out 8 batters. I don’t expect him to have so many strikeouts but I do expect him to stick in this rotation.

Furthermore, this is Cecconi’s second year in the majors. Needless to say, if he continues to pitch like he has he could be in for a strong year. This will be this week’s last fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 6.
