Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Week 11

After another week of action around the league, it’s time to target some hitters and pitchers on the waiver wire. For your fantasy baseball teams, these players are worth picking up or stashing.

The big call-up finally happened, Elly De La Cruz is here and making an immediate impact. I did not include him on this list because I can’t imagine he is available in any league unless it is a Sunday night waiver run. If that is the case, drop whatever you can do and add him. Let’s get right into it with the top hitters and pitchers to add off the waiver wire for your fantasy baseball teams.

Waiver Wire Hitters

Nolan Jones, 1B/OF, Colorado Rockies
First up is the former Cleveland Guardian is now making an impact for the Colorado Rockies. Nolan Jones has played in 12 games and is batting .366 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. He has three stolen bases as well. With CJ Cron out, Jones has been seeing everyday playing time and has been red hot to start since being called up from AAA.
Joey Wiemer, OF, Milwaukee Brewers
Joey Wiemer started the season off slow, but as of late has really heated up. He is only batting .231 on the season now, but in the last week he is nearly batting .500. Additionally, he went 4-4 on Wednesday against Baltimore with two home runs and five RBIs. Furthermore, he has nine stolen bases on the season to go with eight home runs and 23 RBIs. Needless to say, he has become a must-add for your fantasy baseball teams.
Mitch Garver, C, Texas Rangers
Mitch Garver has been seeing everyday playing time as Texas’ designated hitter, all while maintaining catcher eligibility. Garver has appeared in 11 games and has three home runs and nine RBIs. He is batting .306 on the season as well. With the way the Texas Rangers lineup has been hitting, if Garver continues to see everyday playing time, he becomes a must-add in two catcher formats. Or even one catcher depending on your waiver wire and league settings.
Gary Sanchez, C, San Diego Padres
Yes, Gary Sanchez. The former Yankee, and Met (short-timer), have been red hot to start his Padre career. He has been the catcher seeing a majority of the work and has hit four home runs in a Padre uniform since joining the team at the end of May. Personally, I believe we may need to see a bigger sample size to see if this is legit. However, Sanchez has talent and if he can continue this hot streak he is a must-add in two catcher formats.
Ezequiel Duran, 3B, Texas Rangers
Ezequiel Duran may not be available in your league, but if he was dropped, he is a definite must-add. Duran is batting at the bottom of the order, but he has played in 43 games this season and is batting .322 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs. He has three stolen bases as well. As I mentioned with Mitch Garver, the Rangers’ lineup is one of the best offensive lineups right now. Really, adding anyone from that lineup could greatly benefit you.

Waiver Wire Pitchers

Andrew Abbott, SP, Cincinnati Reds
Andrew Abbott made his anticipated debut and is known for his high strikeout rate in the minors. He pitched against Milwaukee on Monday and looked great. Additionally, he threw six innings of no-run ball, striking out six batters. He did issue four walks, but he managed to get the win and a quality start. Abbott is someone to keep an eye on if he sticks in the rotation, which seems to be the case. Hunter Greene is back this weekend, but Abbott is too talented to send back right now, especially after that start. He lines up to pitch Saturday at St. Louis.
AJ Smith-Shawver, SP, Atlanta Braves
AJ Smith-Shawver was initially called up to be a bullpen piece, but with Mike Soroka being sent down, Smith-Shawver now gets the start Friday against the Nationals. His two starts would line up to be the Nationals and Tigers. Now, he has a great chance to start his career off hot, making adding him now a priority. All in all, e appeared in only one relief appearance this week and threw 2.1 innings striking out three batters and not allowing a run and only walking a batter.
Julio Teheran, SP, Milwaukee Brewers
Here is a blast from the past, Julio Teheran has been lights out in his three starts this season. He has pitched 17.1 innings and has ten strikeouts, a 1.56 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and two quality starts. Additionally, he has only walked two batters. Next, he lines up on Saturday to face Oakland which is a very favorable matchup. Ride this out while he is hot, but streaming-wise, Teheran is an excellent streamer against the Athletics.
Griffin Canning, SP, Los Angeles Angels
Griffin Canning has been pitching very consistently of late. He pitched last Sunday against Houston (which is no easy task) and delivered a quality start. Additionally, he threw six innings while striking out four batters. Overall, he allowed a run and a walk. Canning’s season ERA of 4.47 does not reflect how he has pitched of late (7 runs allowed in his last 24.1 innings of work). Now, he lines up to face Seattle next week, and Kansas City the following week.
James Paxton, SP, Boston Red Sox
James Paxton has been pitching really well of late and is becoming a reliable streaming option, so long as he stays healthy. Paxton most recently pitched Tuesday against the Guardians. He struck out nine batters in seven innings while giving up two runs and only walking two batters. Additionally, he lines up at home against Colorado next week, and then the Yankees in a two-start week. He currently has a 3.81 ERA on the season and a 1.23 WHIP. Finally, he has 36 strikeouts in 26 innings and two quality starts.

Minor League Stash Options

We saw Elly De La Cruz get the call-up this week to Cincinnati. You would have to imagine Christian Encarnacion-Strand is not far behind. Needless to say, he has been crushing it in AAA and the Reds have to bring him up soon.
Colton Cowser and Oswald Peraza are two prospects that should see their call-ups soon. Cowser would have been the preferred call up I would imagine before he got hurt, and Baltimore went out and signed Aaron Hicks. Still, he has to be close. Peraza was reported to be starting at 3B in AAA, so he could see work there with the Yankees. With DJ LeMahieu struggling, he could see time soon if the Yankee offense continues to struggle with Aaron Judge out.
