Must Start Wide Receivers in Fantasy Football Week 14
Each week there are wide receivers that emerge as difference makers for your fantasy football team. Choosing the correct players at this volatile position on a weekly basis is a necessary skill on the path to a fantasy football championship. These wide receivers highlighted below have a combination of positive matchups and game scripts, opportunities for targets, and the skill to help you win your Week 14 matchup. Continue reading to check out my four must-start wide receivers for the week.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Seattle Seahawks
After finishing as a top 15 wide receiver for three straight games, Jaxon Smith-Njigba came back down to Earth in Week 13 by finishing outside the top 30 at the position. Despite the down week, the second-year pro still leads the Seattle Seahawks with a dominant 25.8% target share over the past four weeks. On the season, the Ohio State product ranks top 12 in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.
This week, the Seattle Seahawks and their wide receiver room take on the Arizona Cardinals for the second time this season. In the first matchup, Smith-Njigba finished as the WR13 overall with over 75 receiving yards and a touchdown. With fellow offensive playmakers D.K. Metcalf and Kenneth Walker dealing with injuries this week, I’d expect Smith-Njigba to be a big part of the game plan as these teams meet again.
Furthermore, the Seahawks are underdogs in this matchup according to DraftKings. Given Smith-Njigba’s strong play and opportunity within the offense, he’s a must-start for me in Week 14. Fire up the young receiver as a low-end WR1/high-end WR2 as he looks to bounce back from last week’s mediocre fantasy output.
Jakobi Meyers, WR, Las Vegas Raiders
Following the Las Vegas Raiders trade of Davante Adams and a return from injury, Jakobi Meyers has taken on a prominent role within the team’s offense. The veteran receiver has double-digit targets in three of his past five games and has eclipsed 15 PPR fantasy points in four of the five games. Keep in mind, that Meyers did pop up on the injury report on Thursday with an ankle injury. However, if he’s cleared to play then I expect him to continue his torrid pace in Week 14.
This week, Meyers and the Raiders take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are allowing fantasy points to wide receivers at a top-10 rate per our free fantasy football tools. The Raiders are currently the second largest underdogs on the week, according to DraftKings, and will need to throw to keep up with Baker Mayfield, Bucky Irving, and the explosive Buccaneers offense.
Meyers is seeing elite volume and with a plus matchup, he’s a solid WR2 for me this week. The former New England Patriot is a must-start wide receiver in Week 14 that needs to be in all fantasy football lineups.
Keenan Allen, WR, Chicago Bears
Keenan Allen and the Chicago Bears offense has been revitalized with Thomas Brown taking over as offensive coordinator last month. Brown now takes over as the head coach for the Bears in Week 14 as they look to keep their recent success going. Over the past three games with the new offensive coordinator, Allen has seen eight or more targets in each game and finished as a top-five WR in fantasy each of the past two weeks.
With fellow wide receiver D.J. Moore missing the first two practices of the week, expect Allen to continue to see a massive target share in a matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. The veteran receiver is currently the WR26 in consensus rankings per FantasyPros but has a ceiling to finish well above this. With a team-leading 26% target share and three receiving touchdowns over the past three weeks, Allen is seeing volume and valuable red zone targets.
Look for the former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver to be a low-end WR2/high-end WR3 in this important Week 14. Allen is someone worth a look, especially in PPR formats, and qualifies as a must-start player in the majority of leagues.
Jordan Addison, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings second-year receiver Jordan Addison has become an integral part of the offense over the month of November. The USC product averaged nearly 70 yards per game with an 18.7% target share and three touchdowns over five games last month. Addison’s success has coincided with the return of tight end T.J. Hockenson from injury as the offense has opened up.
The Vikings take on the Atlanta Falcons this week, a team that’s ranked bottom 10 against the wide receiver position in fantasy. Additionally, the Falcons are a bottom-five team against receivers when schedule-adjusted per our D-PAC Score, which breaks down matchup favorability by position. Personally, I expect Sam Darnold to feel comfortable in the pocket with the Falcons being last in the league in sacks and allowing the highest completion percentage in the NFL.
Addison is currently ranked outside the top 30 wide receivers in FantasyPros consensus. However, I have him ranked as a high-end WR3 this week and within my top 30. All things considered, Addison is a must-start in Week 14 with his solid matchup and strong production of late for fantasy football purposes.
