Colston Loveland Fantasy Football Outlook 2025: Sleeper TE?

0

The 2025 fantasy football season is just around the corner. As always, it will be crucial for you to find those sleepers in your fantasy football drafts. Additionally, it’s important to know which players you should avoid. Today, we’ll break down the Colston Loveland fantasy football outlook for 2025 and beyond.

The Chicago Bears headed into the offseason with one massive problem on offense – the offensive line. Every mock draft in January and February had the Bears taking an offensive lineman with their first-round pick. However, Chicago made three new additions to their offensive line, including a pair of trades, allowing them to spend their top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on the best player available.

Michigan tight end Colston Loveland was the best player available for the Bears with the 10th overall pick. While many draft experts had Tyler Warren as their top tight end in the draft class, Loveland is a better fit for new head coach Ben Johnson’s offense. Let’s look at his 2025 and dynasty fantasy football outlook.

Colston Loveland Fantasy Football Outlook 2025

Can Colston Loveland be a sleeper pick in 2025 fantasy football? Is he just a late-round dart throw at the TE position? Or is he just someone worth stashing in your dynasty fantasy football leagues? Let’s break down his fantasy football outlook for 2025 as well as in dynasty leagues.

Colston Loveland Strengths

Loveland is a talented and athletic tight end who is a far more gifted player than his raw numbers would suggest. He had 117 receptions for 1,466 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in 39 games at Michigan. Last year, the talented tight end set career highs in receptions (56) and touchdowns (five) despite playing with awful quarterbacks and missing time with injuries.

The rookie was the focal point of Michigan’s passing attack the past two years. Loveland had 45 receptions for 649 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 2023 with J.J. McCarthy under center, despite Roman Wilson having a career year and an elite run game led by Blake Corum.

Colston Loveland Weakness

Unfortunately, Loveland missed time with an injury last season that limited what he could do during the pre-draft process. However, that shouldn’t be a significant concern for fantasy players. Landing with the Bears is excellent for the tight end’s long-term fantasy value. He is tied to Caleb Williams and Johnson for the next several years.

Yet, Loveland might struggle to see enough volume as a rookie, given Chicago’s crowded receiving core. DJ Moore and Rome Odunze are the starting wide receivers, while Cole Kmet has been the team’s top tight end for the past few seasons. However, the Bears also used their second-round pick in the NFL Draft on Luther Burden III, adding another talented weapon to an already loaded receiving group.

Colston Loveland Fantasy Football Outlook in 2025

Fantasy football players shouldn’t draft Loveland as a top-10 tight end in redraft leagues. Kmet isn’t going anywhere this year, meaning the rookie won’t have a full-time set of snaps. Furthermore, the drafting of Burden likely rules Loveland out of playing the slot role in Johnson’s offense. In the end, he might be someone you spend some FAAB on from the waiver wire.

More importantly, the team’s heavy investment in the offensive line is critical for the passing game. However, it also improves the run game, which is the focal point of Johnson’s offense. Therefore, don’t expect Williams to rank among the league leaders in pass attempts this season, especially with Chicago having a talented defense.

Colston Loveland Dynasty Outlook

While Loveland’s outlook this year isn’t ideal, fantasy football players shouldn’t let that discourage them from taking him in the first round of their dynasty rookie drafts. The former Michigan star is an elite prospect and was worthy of his top-10 draft capital. More importantly, he landed in an excellent spot for his long-term fantasy football value.

The Bears will move on from Kmet after the 2025 season, when the veteran has an out in his contract. As a result, Loveland will be the team’s starting tight end in 2026. Furthermore, the rookie could surprise everyone like Brock Bowers did last year. While calling for Loveland to finish as the TE1 is a hot take, no one should be shocked if he has a top-seven finish as a rookie.
