Emeka Egbuka Fantasy Football Outlook 2025: WR Bust?

1

Leading up to the draft, Emeka Egbuka was considered one of the top rookies at the wide receiver position, and many in the fantasy football community were eager to see which team would draft the talented player out of Ohio State. Shockingly and surprisingly, Egbuka was drafted 19th overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Emeka Egbuka Fantasy Football Outlook

How will Egbuka’s talents translate to the NFL, and will his impact be felt this upcoming season or in the years to come? Continue reading as we break down the fantasy football impact of Egbuka with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Emeka Egbuka Strengths

Egbuka is a detailed and natural route runner. He is a smooth and fluid receiver who primarily plays and wins from the slot position. Egbuka seems to be overshadowed by former Ohio State alumni like Chris Olave, Marvin Harrison Jr, Garrett Wilson, and Jaxson Smith-Njigba. However, he does own the Ohio State record for career receptions at 205 and is second in career receiving yards with 2,868. Additionally, he was an integral part of the team’s National Championship win last year.

Egbuka is an extremely savvy route runner who can quickly change direction to separate from coverage. He is best in the short to intermediate range of the football field. Egbuka projects to be a prototypical slot receiver in the NFL who will fit in nicely with the ascending Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers’ fast-paced offense.

Emeka Egbuka Weaknesses

Being drafted by the Buccaneers is without a doubt not the ideal spot or situation for Egbuka’s 2025 fantasy football season. The Buccaneers already have a crowded receiving room with future Hall of Famer Mike Evans, Chris Goodwin, who was re-signed to a new three-year deal, and sophomore Jalen McMillan, who broke out during the last quarter of the 2024 season. Not to mention tight end Cade Otton and running backs Bucky Irving and Rachaad Whit, who will also siphon targets away from Egbuka.

Emeka Egbuka Fantasy Football Outlook in 2025

As mentioned, Egbuka is a prototypical slot receiver, where, unfortunately for him, Godwin has excelled while with the Buccaneers. Unless Godwin’s recovery is not going as well as expected, there are concerns as to where Egbuka will play out in the offense and to what extent.

However, Egbuka is one Mike Evans hamstring or groin injury (which unfortunately has plagued Evans in his career) or Godwin relapsing from offseason ankle surgery away from being fantasy relevant.

The former Buckeye will undoubtedly demonstrate flashes of his ability throughout the upcoming season and why he was a first-round pick, but they most likely will be infrequent to benefit your fantasy team consistently. Fantasy managers should temper expectations with Egbuka for the 2025 season when it comes to immediate fantasy production. Unless there is an injury to one of the main receivers, Egbuka is no more than a WR4-5.

Emeka Egbuka Dynasty Outlook

From a dynasty fantasy football lens, the landing spot of Tampa Bay for Egbuka is more favourable. There is the possibility that by the end of 2026, Egbuka could be the number one receiver in Tampa Bay. Evans’ contract expires at the end of 2025, and the Buccaneers can get out from under Godwin’s contract at the end of 2026.

Egbuka may have a similar career path to Seattle Seahawks’ Jaxson Smith-Njigba. He will show flashes in his rookie year but may not break out until the second half of the 2026 season. Dynasty managers will have to exercise patience with Egbuka and look more towards 2026 and beyond.
