Fantasy Football Metrics That Matter (Week 12)

Welcome back to another edition of fantasy football metrics that matter. This column dives into all of the stats and data generated for fantasy football. More importantly, it gets rid of all of the noise and misleading numbers to highlight the fantasy football metrics that matter for success. On a weekly basis, I’m going to highlight a few players who might surprise you with how well, or how alarming they are performing in these metrics. Using this, you can get ahead of your competition for Week 11 and beyond. These are some of the fantasy football metrics that matter as we head into Week 11.

We’re powered by our own suite of free fantasy football tools and visualizations. All of these are available for free and have shown a “stickiness” to future fantasy football success.

Odell Beckham Jr. is still “The Guy”

Considering all of the injuries, sideline drama, off the field (on the plane) drama, not to mention the age, but Odell Beckham Jr. might just be the key piece to a fantasy football championship run.

Beckham might be off your fantasy radar, and that’s understandable. For the season he ranks 60th among receivers in total points, (59.4 in 0.5-PPR scoring), 62nd in points per game (6.6) and his 1.94 Consistency Score (CS) ranks 63rd.

But he sticks out much higher in one metric though that might seem a little strange. His Targets per Route Run (TPRR) of 23.16% ranks 33rd among eligible receivers. And even that number is low considering the abysmal start he had to the season. If we look at Weeks 6 though 11 his TPRR soars to 29.7% which would rank sixth overall at the position for that time span.

Odell Beckham Targets per Route Run

Beckham has been on a steady trajectory upwards since Week 5 and that increase in volume is having a big increase in his ability to produce for fantasy.

If we look at just that same time frame, Beckham’s CS skips up to 3.52 which would rank 23rd among his fellow receivers for that same time period. And if we look at just the past three weeks, he leapfrogs into the No.1 spot among receivers with a 10.59 CS.

Time to Step Up

Odell Beckham Jr.’s 31 targets since Week 6 already ranks 35th among all receivers over that time span. But now Mark Andrews, the arguably No.1 target in the Baltimore passing attack, is done for the rest of the fantasy football season. And with that news comes 21.4% vacated targets on the year.

Odell has already shown chemistry with quarterback Lamar Jackson in recent weeks with Andrews in the mix. It stands to reason that with Andrews gone, it’s time for Beckham to step up and take that No.1 role in this revamped Ravens passing attack.

It might seem like a throwback to the pre-COVID era, but Odell Beckham Jr. might just become an integral piece to your fantasy football rosters success. Considering he’s only rostered in 42% of leagues on Sleeper and 56% of leagues on FleaFlicker, he’s relatively still widely available and absolutely worth the FAAB to acquire him this late in the year.
