4 Running Backs to Target in Fantasy Football for Week 10
Each week there are running backs that emerge as difference makers for your fantasy football team, whether in your starting lineup or as valuable depth. Choosing the correct players both in your lineup and as bench stashes on a weekly basis is a necessary skill on the path to a fantasy football championship. These running backs highlighted below have a combination of positive matchups and game scripts, opportunities for carries and targets, and the skill to help you win your Week 10 matchup. Kyren Williams, RB, Los Angeles Rams
Coming off his worst performance of the season, Kyren Williams is someone that I’d be looking to buy if an owner is considering selling. The Notre Dame product has been a dominant RB1 this season and has 10 total touchdowns in eight games. Williams has seen 18 or more carries in seven of the eight games he’s played in and leads all RBs by playing 88.3% of his team’s snaps.
This week Williams and the Los Angeles Rams take on a Miami Dolphins team that’s given up fantasy points to RBs at a top 10 rate and has been the second worst in the league when schedule adjusted, per our D-PAC Score. With one of the highest over/unders of the week and the Rams favored, I like the young running back and his elite volume to bounce back in this Monday Night Football matchup. Fire up Williams as a strong RB1 option and try to see if his owner is willing to sell him if he’s not on your roster.
Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, New York Giants
Rookie Tyrone Tracy has taken over the New York Giants backfield in recent weeks. The ascending back played 72% of snaps last week, his highest snap share in a game that both he and Devin Singletary have played in. Tracy has been producing as well, averaging over 95 total yards per game since taking over the majority role of the backfield in Week 5.
The rookie takes on the Carolina Panthers this week, the worst defense in the league against running backs. Tracy’s schedule is excellent looking forward as he plays bottom 10 defenses against running backs in each of his next four matchups. Fire up Tracy as a solid RB2 this week and look to target him, as well as his excellent schedule, if you need RB help in the upcoming weeks.
Tyjae Spears, RB, Tennessee Titans
Tyjae Spears looks to be healthy after an injury sidelined him over the past three weeks. Prior to the injury, the Tulane product was working behind starter Tony Pollard and playing a big role as a pass catcher. Spears averaged three receptions and over 25 receiving yards per game in his four healthy contests this year.
Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan stated that he wants to “reduce the workload of Tony Pollard“, according to the Titans official website. Pollard missed practice on Thursday with his own injury, which means Spears looks to have a clear path to increased touches.
Assuming Pollard is in the lineup, I like Spears as a low-end RB3 due to his pass-catching upside in a matchup the Titans are projected to lose against the Los Angeles Chargers. If Pollard sits, I like Spears as a low-end RB2 who will share some carries with Julius Chestnut. Either way Spears is a solid player to target for RB-needy teams and his current consensus rankings of RB54, per FantasyPros, is way too low.
Cam Akers, RB, Minnesota Vikings
After coming to the Minnesota Vikings via trade a few weeks ago, Cam Akers has quickly overtaken Ty Chandler for the backup role in the Minnesota Vikings offense. Akers was productive last week, averaging nearly eight yards per carry and catching multiple passes while Chandler saw zero offensive snaps.
The former Ram and Texan now takes on a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that ranks bottom five against RBs this season and allowed Saquon Barkley to be the RB1 overall last week. I like Akers as a solid RB3/RB4 option this week with potential upside for more if the Vikings win big, they’re currently 7-point favorites according to DraftKings. Akers is a running back to target not just as a potential Flex play but as a handcuff behind an older RB in Aaron Jones.
