Omarion Hampton Fantasy Outlook 2025: Will He Breakout?

0

The Los Angeles Chargers selected North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton with the 22nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Fantasy players loved seeing the talented running back land in an excellent situation for his short and long-term fantasy football value. Hampton has the skill set to be a featured running back, making an impact on the ground and in the passing game. Furthermore, he is coming off back-to-back productive years to end his college career.

Omarion Hampton Fantasy Football Outlook

Can Omarion Hampton break out in 2025 fantasy football? Read below to find out his fantasy football outlook for both redraft and dynasty leagues.

Omarion Hampton Strengths

Hampton’s fantasy appeal comes from his talent and landing spot. He was consistently the top running back in the ACC during his time at North Carolina, totaling at least 1,500 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in back-to-back seasons to end his college career. Furthermore, Hampton led the conference in rushing scores (15) and yards (1,504) in 2023 while ranking first in yards (1,660) last year. He also had an impact in the passing game, totaling 67 receptions for 595 receiving yards and three touchdowns over the past two seasons.

Meanwhile, the Chargers were one of the top rushing offenses in the NFL last year. They ranked 11th in rushing attempts (463) and touchdowns (17) despite J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards each missing time with injuries. Furthermore, Los Angeles has limited competition for the rookie running back. Najee Harris signed a one-year deal with the Chargers in free agency after the team moved on from Dobbins and Edwards.

Last year, the Los Angeles backfield averaged 24.5 touches for 104.9 scrimmage yards, a touchdown, and 17.6 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Yet, Hampton is a significantly better talent than Harris, Dobbins, and Edwards. While he won’t see all the backfield volume in 2025, the rookie should be the team’s lead running back.

Omarion Hampton Weaknesses

Unfortunately, Hampton won’t have a featured role like other rookie running backs. Ashton Jeanty and RJ Harvey have no competition for touches, meaning they can be less efficient than Hampton but put up more fantasy production because of the volume. Therefore, fantasy players shouldn’t bet on the former North Carolina star to be one of the top two scoring rookie running backs in 2025.

The Chargers will use Harris despite spending a first-round pick on Hampton. Furthermore, the team recently placed the rarely used unrestricted free agent tag on Dobbins, improving his odds of returning to Los Angeles for next season. The Chargers have exclusive negotiating rights with the veteran running back if he doesn’t sign with a new team by the start of training camp. Therefore, Hampton could be part of a three-headed backfield as a rookie.

Omarion Hampton Fantasy Football Outlook in 2025

Thankfully, no one has their redraft league drafts in May. Therefore, fantasy players have time to see how the Los Angeles backfield looks before drafting their redraft team. Hopefully, Dobbins signs with a new team, and Harris slips into the No. 2 role for the Chargers. That would give Hampton the best opportunity to become a weekly starting option for fantasy players this year.

Furthermore, the former North Carolina star can range from a flex option in a messy backfield to a high-end RB2 if Dobbins is playing elsewhere in 2025. Furthermore, Hampton could be a top-seven running back in redraft leagues on the slim chance Harris and Dobbins aren’t on the active roster come Week 1.

Omarion Hampton Dynasty Outlook

Ultimately, Hampton should be the 1.02 pick in all dynasty rookie drafts behind Jeanty. Los Angeles might have a crowded backfield this upcoming season. However, Harris and Dobbins won’t be around in 2026, allowing the former North Carolina star to have a featured role. He will be a superstar in Jim Harbaugh’s offense, running behind one of the top offensive lines in the NFL.
