Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings and Tiers for Week 9

Week 8 saw an epic showdown between the top two draft picks of the 2024 NFL Draft – Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Washington Commanders quarterback and early rookie of the year candidate, Jayden Daniels. The game ended with a miraculous Hail Mary catch by Commanders receiver Noah Brown leading Washington to an unlikely victory.

While Williams and Daniels stole the show and highlights that Sunday night, it was Denver Broncos rookie Bo Nix who had the best week for the 2024 rookie quarterback class. Impressively, Nix threw for almost 300 yards to go along with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. This resulted in a total of 29.8 fantasy points which was QB2 for the week. Don’t look now, but Nix is currently the QB9 for the year.

Week 8 also saw the re-emergence of the Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts‘ “tush push”. Hurts ran in two one-yard touchdowns. Meanwhile, Saquon Barkley didn’t get a rushing touchdown this week. Additionally, we saw a “welcome back” to Matthew Stafford entering the QB1 discussion.

Off to Week 9 and the return of the bye week. That means no Russell Wilson (who is making a believer out of me) or Brock Purdy who was my must-start QB from Week 8. Here you will find my top 12 fantasy football quarterback rankings for Week 9. Each week, I’ll separate them into tiers along with one “Start of the Week.” Let’s get right into it.

Week 9 Fantasy Football QB Rankings: Start of the Week

Dak Prescott at Atlanta Falcons

As a Dallas Cowboys fan, I’ve seen firsthand how Dak Prescott has struggled the past few weeks. Not to mention, just this season in general. To be fair, the last three games have been against two top-12 defenses in the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both of which were road matchups. Not to mention, the extremely red-hot Detroit Lions offense.

This week, Prescott and the Cowboys go on the road to face off with the Atlanta Falcons in a must-win game for the Cowboys. Notably, this game has the highest over/under projected for the week at 52.5. The Cowboys and Prescott will be forced to sling the ball to keep up with the Falcons high octane offense.

Using our free D-PAC, or Defensive Points Allowed Consistency fantasy football tool, we can see that this matchup is favorable for Prescott. In short, the higher the D-PAC Score, the more often those teams give up fantasy points to the opposing position. More importantly, it can help you find “easy” or “tough” matchups to target or avoid. As for the Falcons, they have the third-highest D-PAC Score, meaning they give up the third-most points to opposing QBs. Notably, they give up an average of over 20 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks.

All signs point to a bounce-back game this week for Prescott. Sitting as the 12th quarterback in our rankings and tiers this week, Prescott rounds out our Week 9 quarterback rankings.
