Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings & Tiers – Week 9

0

We’re back for Week 9 of the 2024 fantasy football season with this week’s fantasy football running back rankings and tiers. Below, you will find my top 24 fantasy football RB rankings and tiers to get you ready for Week 9 in the NFL. Each week, I’ll separate them into tiers along with my “Start of the Week”.

Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings for Week 9

Week 8 saw some mediocre performances from the top-tier backs. Saquon Barkley (Thank you “tush push” and Jalen Hurts), Derrick Henry, Kenneth Walker, Breece Hall, and Alvin Kamara. We also saw some strong performances from James Cook (25. 3 fantasy points), Josh Jacobs (24.5) and Jahmyr Gibbs (19.3).

Meanwhile, Joe Mixon continues to be a bellcow for the Houston Texans. Impressively, he has averaged 23 fantasy points per game for the last three weeks. With receiver Stefon Diggs out for the season with a torn ACL and Nico Collins out until at least week 10, the Texans will have to increasingly rely on Mixon.

Have we seen the end of Jordan Mason‘s fantasy relevance? Unfortunately, he left last week’s game again after aggravating his shoulder injury. Meanwhile, we saw the emergence of Isaac Guerendo and the hopeful return of Christian McCaffrey in Week 10.

Off to Week 9 and the return of the bye week. That means no Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, and whatever combination of Mason and Guerendo would have played. Here you will find my top 24 Fantasy Football RB rankings for Week 9. Each week, I’ll separate them into tiers along with one “Start of the Week.” Let’s get into the picks.

Week 9 Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings: Start of the Week

Alvin Kamara at Carolina Panthers

For the season, Kamara is still the RB2 overall in PPR thanks to a 43-point performance in Week 2. However, he has averaged just over 11 fantasy points for the past four games. With an injured Derek Carr, the New Orleans Saints have been forced to start at quarterback rookies Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener. Haener took over from Rattler last week in the third quarter after he was struggling. As a result, opposing defenses can focus more on Kamara and overall scoring to go down for the team and Kamara.

This week, the Saints face the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are truly an elixir for all opposing offenses and their fantasy football relevant players. Notably, they have the 32nd ranked rushing defense in the league. They allow an average of 154.6 rushing yards per game and the most rushing touchdowns at 14.

One of our free fantasy football tools here at Faceoff Sports Network is our D-PAC Score. In short, the higher the D-PAC Score, the more often that defense gives up points to opposing players. You can use this to find favorable matchups, such as the Panthers, or tough matchups to help with your start or sit decisions. Carolina currently has the highest RB D-PAC Score in the NFL, giving up an average of 30.4 points to opposing running backs.

Look for Kamara to bounce back this week with the possibility of him being the RB1 overall. Kamara is currently my RB10 for the week and is a low-end RB1 in our Week 9 fantasy football running back rankings.
