Top 5 Tight End Streaming Options for Week 9: Fantasy Football 2024
For Week 9, there are two teams on their bye week. The San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a result, star tight end George Kittle will be out, and Pat Freiermuth as well. Both of them have been reliable weekly starters this year, so you might need to pick someone up off the waiver wire. Continue reading to find out the top 5 streaming options for the tight end position in Week 9.
Zach Ertz (TE – WAS) @ New York Giants
One of the most electric offenses in the NFL has turned out to be rookie Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders. Notably, they have a powerful group of running backs in Brian Robinson, Austin Ekeler, and Daniels as well. In the passing game, Terry McLaurin has quietly put together a fantastic season so far. Meanwhile, veteran tight end Zach Ertz is the TE9 in PPR scoring for fantasy football purposes.
This week, the Commanders are on the road against the Giants. Recently, we had the Commanders’ defense as a top streaming DST option this week as well. Ertz has been impressive this year and he’s coming off a season-high 11 targets in Week 8 against the Bears. Additionally, he saw a season-high in receptions (7) and yards (77). New York is fairly tough against opposing tight ends, but Ertz is becoming a must-start tight end. Right now, he’s rostered in 54% of fantasy football leagues on Sleeper.
Mike Gesicki (TE – CIN) vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Joe Burrow and this Bengals offense is starting to heat up. With that, one of the benefitors has been tight end Mike Gesicki. He’s coming off a TE16 performance against the Eagles, who are one of the toughest matchups for opposing tight ends. He caught 7 of 8 passes for 73 yards. Additionally, he played in 53% of the offensive snaps last week, which was a season-high for him.
Furthermore, Tee Higgins (quadriceps) is not expected to play this week. After sitting last week, it’s clear that Gesicki sees more work when Higgins is out. Notably, Higgins has missed Week 1, 2, and 8. During those games, Gesicki saw 4, 9, and 8 targets. His season-high 7 catches, 9 targets, and 91 yards came in Week 2 against the Chiefs, when Higgins was sidelined. All things considered, Gesicki is a solid TE streaming option for Week 9. You can also start him in Week 10 in another juicy matchup against the Ravens.
Hunter Henry (TE – NEP) @ Tennessee Titans
Over the past three weeks, Hunter Henry has been the TE8, TE6, and last week the TE22. During that time he found the end zone for the first time this year and had a 8 of 9 for 92 yard-performance. Last week, he caught 5 of 6 targets for 45 yards in a tougher matchup against the Jets. During that three-week span, he is the TE9 in PPR scoring.
This week, Henry takes on the Tennessee Titans. As someone who is rostered in just 39% of leagues on Sleeper, Henry is a solid streaming option this week. With another tough matchup on paper, this is going to be a week where Henry needs to find the end zone. That’s typically the case when you’re streaming a tight end, you’re just hoping for the touchdown.
Taysom Hill (QB/TE – NOS) @ Carolina Panthers
Next up is none other than the hybrid weapon himself, Taysom Hill. After missing three games with a rib injury, Hill returned in Week 8 where he saw 4 targets and 4 carries. Both backup running backs Kendre Miller (hamstring) and Jamaal Williams (groin) aren’t expected to play in Week 9.
This week, the Saints take on the Panthers. Notably, they give up the most fantasy points to both running backs and tight ends in the NFL in 2024. This week, both Hill and Derek Carr are expected to be active. Carr has been inactive with an oblique injury since Week 5 against the Chiefs.
Rostered in just 17% of fantasy leagues on Sleeper, Hill is someone you can spot-start this week off the waiver wire. With all of the injuries to this offense and the juicy matchup, don’t be surprised if Hill has one of his classic “boom” games this week.
Will Dissly (TE – LAC) @ Cleveland Browns
We’re looking at the bottom of the barrel here, but Will Dissly has seen 23 targets in his last three games. Outside of an impressive rookie WR Ladd McConkey, this Chargers offense has been dealing with a lot of injuries. Dissly himself was dealing with a shoulder issue but is good to go this week.
Over the last two weeks, Dissly has had an 18% target share. Additionally, he had an 11-target game back in Week 7, which was a season-high. He also caught 8 passes for 81 yards, both season-highs as well. As someone who is rostered in just 4% of fantasy football leagues on Sleeper, Dissly can be a streaming option in deeper leagues or in a pinch.
