Tyler Shough Fantasy Football Outlook 2025: Rookie Sleeper?
To the surprise of many, Tyler Shough was the third quarterback drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. He was shockingly drafted over Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the early 2nd round, with the 4oth pick by the New Orleans Saints. Today, we’ll break down the Tyler Shough fantasy football outlook for 2025 and in dynasty leagues.
Tyler Shough Fantasy Football Outlook 2025
Can Tyler Shough have an instant fantasy football impact in 2025 with the Saints? Or will he be a one year stop gap until the Saints draft their franchise quarterback in the much heralded 2026 class? Continue reading as we break down the fantasy football impact of Shough with the New Orleans Saints.
Tyler Shough Strengths
Last year with Louisville and finally healthy, Shough threw for 3,195 yards to go along with 23 touchdowns. He demonstrated a plus level arm who can throw well in the pocket with velocity and accuracy. Especially in the short to intermediate level of the field. Additionally, he is an above average athlete who can throw out of the pocket when on the move. However, he is clearly more comfortable in the pocket.
Tyler Shough Weaknesses
One of the biggest knocks on Shough is his age. He had a 7-year college career playing for Oregon, Texas Tech, and Louisville. Notably, he will be turning 26 in September. Unfortunately, that is fairly old for a rookie quarterback.
Another issue is Shough’s extensive injury history in college. He suffered through many injuries, including a broken collarbone and fibula that ultimately limited his playing time in college.
Tyler Shough Fantasy Football Outlook in 2025
With the sudden and shocking news of Derek Carr’s retirement, Shough only has to beat out 2023 fourth-rounder Jake Haener and 2024 fifth-rounder Spencer Rattler. Both of whom started in 2024 with less-than-ideal results.
If Shough wins the starting job, he will be playing in a decent offensive environment. At the skill positions he will have running back Alvin Kamara, receivers Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Juwan Johnson and a revamped offensive line with two first round offensive tackles in Taliese Fuaga and Kelvin Banks Jr. Add in first year head coach Kellen Moore who has been able to help quarterbacks in the past and Shough may be able to have some success in his rookie season.
Shough is an intriguing player in superflex formats as a possible QB2, but shouldn’t even be considered as a bench stash in 1QB leagues.
Tyler Shough Dynasty Outlook
The long-term outlook is the true mystery with Shough. Will the New Orleans Saints have a terrible season in 2025? Will they gamble and shoot for a top quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft? You can check out some of the top prospects in the latest 2026 NFL Draft Rankings. All in all, Shough is the prototypical risk/reward type of pick in fantasy football.
Shough is currently the QB35 in dynasty rankings on FantasyPros. He was being drafted in the early to mid-3rd round in rookie drafts. In fact, he is being drafted after the 5th-round pick, Shedeur Sanders. With the Carr retirement news, I fully expect Shough to be drafted in the mid to late 2nd round in rookie drafts. In Superflex, the quarterback position is still king, and this gives him solid value. In the end, Shough could be a gamble that ends up paying out. Ultimately, his fantasy football outlook is an unclear risk for 2025 and beyond.
