Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 12
Week 11 was a fairly eventful one with Jonathan Taylor and Austin Ekeler carrying fantasy managers to victory, combining for over 90 fantasy points. The big waiver wire prize this week should be Elijah Moore who is developing into a true WR1 for the New York Jets. With the fantasy playoffs approaching, and the trade deadline passing, the emphasis on hitting on waiver picks now is big. Keep in mind, the Cardinals and Chiefs are on a bye this week. These roster percentages were taken off ESPN. Let’s get to it with Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 12.
Quarterbacks
Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers, 41% rostered
Cam Newton is officially back! He threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns and added ten rushes for 46 yards and another touchdown last week. He should be a top priority for someone who rosters Kyler Murray or Patrick Mahomes on their bye weeks. Newton gets Miami this coming week and should be a fine starter.
Zach Wilson, New York Jets, 3% rostered (Superflex Leagues)
Alright, he’s only on here because I am hoping to see improvement, but with Mike White, Josh Johnson, and Joe Flacco all having recent success in the Jets’ offense, I would hope that translates to Zach Wilson in which should be a get right game against the Texans. Oh! And to add, he has Elijah Moore breaking out as well. If you’re a believer, now is a good time to target him for cheap.
Running Backs
Ty Johnson, New York Jets, 19% rostered
Michael Carter left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, and his status is up in the air. If he were to miss any time, I would expect a combination of Tevin Coleman and Ty Johnson to fill the shoes. I would prefer to roster Johnson here with his level of work in PPR. He did not have much involvement against Miami, one carry for five yards and one catch for eight yards, but he has been putting up near double-digit fantasy points for almost half of his games.
Devonta Freeman, Baltimore Ravens, 34% rostered
Latavius Murray returned on Sunday and was assumed the starter, but Devonta Freeman maintained his role. He took 16 carries for 49 yards and scored the winning touchdown versus Murray’s 10 carries for 32 yards. Freeman also caught all six of his targets for 31 yards. With the release of Le’Veon Bell, Freeman now competes with Murray for the RB1 title.
Wide Receivers
Elijah Moore, New York Jets, 41% rostered
If you have any FAAB left, this is your player to target. Elijah Moore has broken out and has done so with three different quarterbacks. He is showing he is the true WR1 in New York. He caught 8/11 targets Sunday for 141 yards and a long 62-yard touchdown. In his last five games, he has put up double-digit fantasy points and will play the Texans Sunday with Wilson likely back.
Cedric Wilson, Dallas Cowboys, 2% rostered
With CeeDee Lamb ruled out of Sunday’s game with a concussion, and Amari Cooper out with Covid, Cedric Wilson caught four of seven targets for 36 yards. If Cooper and Lamb cannot play on Thanksgiving, Wilson would essentially be the WR2 outside of Michael Gallup. Even if Lamb plays, Wilson should be able to have a decent target share in a short week.
Rondale Moore, Arizona Cardinals, 23% rostered
With the Cardinals on a bye week, Rondale Moore may slip through the waivers. On Sunday he caught all eleven of his targets for 51 yards. The 51 yards is nothing over the top, but the target share is there. Colt McCoy was throwing passes Sunday, and Moore will get Kyler Murray back after the bye, so this is a good stash option.

AJ Green, Arizona Cardinals, 34% rostered
AJ Green seems to have a good stat line every other week. This week has caught four of seven targets for 78 yards. Similar to Rondale Moore, Green had Colt McCoy throwing to him and will see Kyler Murray return after the bye week which should boost his stock.
Rex Burkhead, Houston Texans, 1% rostered (Deeper Leagues)
The Houston Texans shocked the NFL world on Sunday by defeating the top-seeded Tennessee Titans. Rex Burkhead led the team in carries with 18 for 40 yards. David Johnson took 13 carries for 18 yards. Burkhead seems to be the better bet right now for fantasy points. Phillip Lindsay was just released as well. Oh! And they’re playing the worst rush defense against the Jets Sunday.
Russell Gage, Atlanta Falcons, 20% rostered (Deeper Leagues)
Russell Gage has not been entirely consistent, but outside of Kyle Pitts, Gage is the WR1 in Atlanta. Against the Patriots he caught five of eight targets for 49 yards. Since Week 7 he has posted two double-digit fantasy games, with this one being 9.9. He is someone to target in deeper leagues.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Green Bay Packers, 3% rostered (Deeper Leagues)
With Allen Lazard dealing with an injury, Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught 4/10 targets for 123 yards and a touchdown, finishing as a top-five wide receiver this week. If Lazard misses their next game, expect a similar target share against the Rams coming up. The Packers have a bye after this week, so MVS fits as a bye week replacement.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Tennessee Titans, 0% rostered (Deeper Leagues)
With AJ Brown and Marcus Johnson both injured Sunday, Westbrook-Ikhine stepped up and caught seven of eight targets for 107 yards. If both receivers miss the next game, expect this stat line to be similar the following week.
Tight Ends
Adam Trautman, New Orleans Saints, 6% rostered
Trevor Siemian is looking at Adam Trautman’s way a lot. This past Sunday he caught five of eight targets for 58 yards and a touchdown. He has seen six or more targets each week since week eight and is a nice streaming option on the Travis Kelce bye week.
Austin Hooper, Cleveland Browns, 21% rostered
As with Adam Trautman, if you need a Kelce replacement, Austin Hooper’s stat line has increased since the Odell Beckham release. On Sunday he caught four of seven targets for 53 yards. He saw five targets last week. These aren’t fantasy top-tier numbers, but if you need a replacement, and the waiver wire is bare, this is a nice potential option.
