Fantasy Football Week 15 Consistency Corner

0

This week may be the last in-season Consistency Corner, but it won’t be the last fantasy football piece from me.  After the holidays I’ll look back on the season as a whole and dig into the data to give you an edge for next year’s draft. But as the playoffs kick off across leagues this week, managers need to put forward their best lineups possible. Recent COVID and injuries have thrown a real monkey wrench into the process for many though. So let’s dig into the data and see who has risen or fallen in this week’s Consistency Corner Week 15.

Fantasy Football Consistency Risers

Matthew Stafford – 4 to 1

It’s the fantasy football playoffs and every roster decision is under extra scrutiny. The Las Angeles Rams have lost three of their last five and many were wondering if this offense lost their luster.

Despite the bad matchup, fantasy football managers shouldn’t be second-guessing Matthew Stafford as their starting quarterback. With a CS of 10.97, he’s the best signal-caller in the NFL for consistently providing value to your rosters.

Since the Rams’ bye week, Stafford has averaged 294 yards and thrown three touchdowns in all of them. He hasn’t posted a fantasy score less than 21 points since that time either. Whatever they worked on over the bye week, has been very successful.

The Seattle Seahawks don’t appear to be a good matchup on paper. They are averaging the 23rd most points to the quarterback position, 17.12. And with the fourth-highest D-PAC, that means they are very consistent in regards to that. But the Arizona Cardinals are averaging the 30th most points allowed, 14.79, and Stafford just netted 23.48 fantasy points in Week 14 against them.

Don’t overthink things this week. Stafford is averaging over 21 points per game and has been on fire as of late. Just plug and play.

Van Jefferson – 43 to 41

With Stafford as the “don’t worry about it” guy, it should be noted Van Jefferson‘s coming out party onto the fantasy football scene. Since the Los Angeles Rams bye week, Jefferson is averaging 14.56 fantasy points per week, hasn’t posted a game with under 13 fantasy points, and has a touchdown in each of their last three games.

Since Week 3, Jefferson has averaged 6+ targets per game and now fellow wideout Odell Beckham Jr. is on the COVID-19 list.  Jefferson has been an important piece to this passing attack with Robert Woods on IR. And now that Beckham is apt to miss Week 15 and the team entering “enhanced COVID-19 protocols”, his role is about to become that much more integral.

Jefferson is clearly still second fiddle to teammate Cooper Kupp, but a cheaper alternative QB/WR stack. Or just an available option to get a piece of this red hot Rams offense.

Fantasy Football Consistency Fallers

D.K. Metcalf – 25 to 29

Even with quarterback Russell Wilson looking much better in Week 14, D.K. Metcalf still struggled. Only able to manage four receptions on eight targets for 43 yards, no touchdowns, and a measly 6.3 fantasy points, making him the 56th receiver on the week in fantasy football.

It should be no real surprise Metcalf has been on a steady slide down the CS rankings since he hasn’t posted a double-digit fantasy outing since before their Week 9 bye. Since then he has averaged just 5.16 fantasy points per game. From Week 10 on, Metcalf has been harming your team more than helping.

Though not for lack of trying, Metcalf is still averaging 7.2 targets per game over that stretch, which is actually higher than his 7.14 targets on average before their bye week, when he was the 5th highest in CS with a score of 6.95 and averaging 15.7 fantasy points per game.

Even though the Rams look like a positive matchup with the seventh-highest D-PAC score and averaging the 14th most points to the receiver position. Metcalf can’t be trusted for the fantasy football playoffs.

Dalton Schultz – 6 to 10

Dalton Schultz made his way into fantasy football relevance last season stepping into a starting role thanks to a week one injury to Blake Jarwin. Then he exploded into the everyday talk at tight end with his week Week 3 explosion for 23 fantasy points, followed by three more weeks straight posting double digits.

Leading into his bye week, Schultz’s Consistency Score was 3.87, sixth-highest at his position and he was averaging 11.57 fantasy points per game. Since the bye week, Schultz has only had one out of seven weeks in double digits, his CS has dropped to 3.13, and his average points per game has only been 5.93.

The tight end position is always a tricky one. And if you’ve been assuming that you were set with Schultz, it’s time to consider a different strategy. The Dallas Cowboys visit the Meadowlands to take on their division rival New York Giants. Despite the Giants’ ineptitude this season, their defense isn’t a matchup to target at the tight end position. The Giants’ 4.31 D-PAC score versus tight end ranks 20th and they’re only averaging the 18th most points allowed to the position.

It might be time to start scouring the waiver wire for an alternate tight end as you kick off the playoffs.

Stream of the Week

Ricky Seals-Jones – Rostered in 14% of Leagues

Speaking of finding a tight end alternative to Schultz, let’s talk about Ricky Seals-Jones.

Sure rookie John Bates out-snapped Ricky Seals-Jones 48 to 31 in Week 14. But Seals-Jones still got 4 targets to Bates’ 2. Also, it’s worth remembering Seals-Jones was coming back from injury himself to replace Logan Thomas.  In the last stint where Thomas missed time Seals-Jones out-snapped Bates 74.5% to 39.9%. And despite playing second fiddle to Thomas, when both are healthy, Seals-Jones still ranks 31st in total targets at the tight end position on the year.

Plus Seals-Jones gets the ideal matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. The Eagles boast the highest D-PAC score versus TE, 7.74. And they also have the highest average points allowed to the position, 18.17. They are, consistently, the best matchup to play tight end against.

Over the last four weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles have allowed five Top-14 performances and four in the Top-12. In Week 12 Chris Myarick of the New York Giants scored 8.1 fantasy points which ranked 14th on the week.  Every other week, the opposing tight end has been in the Top-12, including both Albert Okquegbunam and Noah Fant with the Denver Broncos ranking 10th and 11th in Week 10.
