Fantasy Football Week 5 Consistency Corner
After four full weeks of the fantasy football season under our belts, I now transition all of the Consistency Score data to the current season. So this week you might see a few players pop or plummet, depending on if their current season is going dramatically better or worse than last year. But we now have enough of a sample size to be able to tell what is meaningful and what isn’t. So let’s get right into this week’s Consistency Corner.
What is the Consistency Score?
Consistency Score: Running Backs
Consistency Score: Wide Receivers
Consistency Score: Tight Ends
Consistency Score: DST
Fantasy Football Week 5 – Risers
Cordarrelle Patterson – ? to 6
This was entirely my fault. I had left Cordarrelle Patterson listed only as a WR in my workbook, forgetting that most fantasy football platforms were now making him RB eligible after the Atlanta Falcons officially designated him as such. Once I fixed that oversight, BAM! Patterson shot up to the top of the Consistency Score rankings with a score of 5.62.
The Falcons offense as a whole has struggled and that has led directly to opportunities for Patterson. The bulk of his fantasy production has come via the passing game. 76% of his total fantasy points in 0.5-PPR are from receptions. That is why he’s greatly outscoring his counterpart Mike Davis, in both Consistency Score and in overall fantasy points. Despite Davis having 22 more rushing attempts on the season than Patterson.
The road is paved for Patterson to have a great Week 5 against the New York Jets. The Jets have the highest D-PAC against the running back position and their 33.4 average points allowed to the position also rank first in fantasy football. You might be able to play both backs this week, but Patterson is the clear favorite.
A.J. Green – 69 to 36
One thing I didn’t expect this year in Fantasy Football, was for A.J. Green to become fantasy relevant yet again. Sure I loved Kyler Murray. But with DeAndre Hopkins, Christian Kirk, Rondale Moore, and not to mention Chase Edmonds, I didn’t think there would be enough targets to go around to sustain Hopkins and a consistent second option.
But after the first four weeks to the 2021 season, we’ve seen Green finish as a WR2 in back-to-back games and is currently the 27th receiver in total fantasy points with 44.3. The Cardinals offense is on fire right now. Their 76.1% pass completion rate is the highest in the NFL. Their 9.5 yards-per-attempt is the second highest. And their 1,273 passing yards rank third. With 17 total offensive touchdowns, only the Kansas City Chiefs have put up more points.
Week 5 could be another strong week for Green and company. The San Francisco 49ers secondary is dramatically undermanned ever since Jason Verrett went down with an injury. Does that mean Hopkins goes back to being a target hog relegating Green to obscurity like in the first two weeks? Or has Green solidified his role opposite Hopkins?
Fantasy Football Week 5 – Fallers
Brandon Aiyuk – 62 to 92
The season started wonky for Brandon Aiyuk and it hasn’t really improved since. Being inactive Week 1, Aiyuk hasn’t seen more than six targets in the following three contests. And he’s only seen even six targets once, Week 3. Now there’s a potential flip flop at quarterback, a tough matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, followed by their BYE week.
Aiyuk’s low target volume is killing his Consistency Score. His ceiling performance was Week 3, his high in targets and he was able to convert one into a touchdown. Unfortunately, his floor has proven to be the bottom of the barrel, 1.1. His Week 5 matchup against the Cardinals is a make-or-break matchup to me for this fantasy football season. The Cardinals rank 10th in D-PAC against receivers and their average 42.80 fantasy points allowed to the position ranks 7th. If Aiyuk doesn’t get involved now, you likely can’t trust him all fantasy football season long barring an injury.

Nyheim Hines – 22 to 43
We’ve seen this from Nyheim Hines before. A strong start to the season and it looks like he’s going to be a safe reliable PPR piece. Then he just fades into obscurity.
He peaked in terms of opportunities in Week 1 with 17. He’s only hit double digits one other time in Week 3 despite this offense clearly needing more weapons and a quick outlet for Carson Wentz, who is currently doing his best Tin Man impression.
Heading into the Ravens nest certainly doesn’t inspire confidence for Hines in Week 5. The Ravens D-PAC score of 7.90 against running backs ranks 20th, despite their 26.03 average points allowed ranking 10th. The Ravens have allowed 35+ fantasy points to the position two weeks, and less than 18 fantasy points the other two weeks. You just can’t trust Hines, even in PPR against this team.

C.J. Uzomah – Rostered in 9% of Leagues
C.J. Uzomah only has 11 targets on the season, but six of those just came in Week 4 when he racked up 95 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense have the third-highest completion percent, 72.9, third-highest yards per attempt, 9.2, and their top running back is banged up thrusting Samaje Perine back into a starting role. That makes me believe they’re going to air it out a little more than usual and when hosting the Green Bay Packers that typically means good things for tight ends.
The Packers 5.36 D-PAC score ranks ninth highest and their 16.63 average points allowed ranks sixth. Uzomah looked great against the Jacksonville Jaguars and should continue that play against the Packers.
