Fantasy Football Week 8 Consistency Corner

Did you make it through the BYE-pocalypse with your team intact? Hopefully, you even scraped out a win.  This upcoming week only has two teams, the Raiders, and Ravens on bye. So far less impactful to our fantasy football rosters. So let’s dig into the data and find out who has been a consistent asset and who has been a consistent letdown. Let’s get right back into it with Fantasy Football Week 8 Consistency Corner.

Fantasy Football Consistency Risers

Damien Harris – 31 to 26

After back-to-back games with 100+ rushing yards, Damien Harris‘s brief two-week skid seems to be over. The New England Patriots offense runs through Harris currently and that’s been great for fantasy production.  Despite not reaching double-digit fantasy points in Weeks three through five, he has the 15th most points among running backs on the season. After a 106 yard performance with two touchdowns, Harris was the third-best RB for Week 7.

The surprising part is how well he is doing despite very little usage in the passing game. On the season he has only 11 targets, which ranks 51st at the position. And the Patriots’ 168 team rushing attempts aren’t even close to the top of the NFL (21st). But there are two keys to his fantasy football success. First, he’s been good with his touches. He’s averaging 4.6 yards-per-carry and 6 yards-per-reception. And secondly, he’s getting all the touches. On the season he has 105 total touches. The next closest New England running back is Brandon Bolden with 30.  Harris is averaging 15 touches per game on a run-first offense. No wonder he’s finished in the Top-24 for running backs in 57% of games played. He has one of the safest floors in fantasy football.

In Week 8 Harris and company will be playing the Los Angeles Chargers, who over the last two weeks (before their bye) have given up an average of 37.3 fantasy points to the RB position.

Michael Pittman Jr. – 36 to 31

Over the last four weeks, the Indianapolis Colts have yet to score under 25 points as an offense. And an integral part of this offense is Michael Pittman Jr. Pittman, on the season has 50 targets, which has him in a tie for the 22nd most in the NFL. But on a more micro-level, has him as the clear alpha in Indy. The next closest in targets would be Zach Pascal with 35. As of right now, Pittman has 22.3% of the target share and is catching 70% of his targets. All of this while also sporting an impressive 14.5 yards-per-reception.

What is even more promising is that Pittman has been able to accumulate the 19th most fantasy points among receivers while only scoring two total touchdowns on the year.  This Colts offense has looked like it’s hitting its stride as of late. And if that translates into more touchdowns for Pittman moving forward, he could win people fantasy championships.

In Week 8 Pittman and the Colts host the Tennessee Titans who are currently averaging the most points allowed to the wide receiver position, 48.03.

Fantasy Football Consistency Fallers

Odell Beckham Jr. – 66 to 73

Odell Beckham is plummeting to the depths of our Consistency Score rankings. With a CS of just 1.77, we find Beckham as the 73rd receiver, lower than he’s ever been when healthy. What is even more concerning is how inept he was for fantasy football even when fellow wideout Jarvis Landry has been missing time along with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. With so many offensive weapons on the injury report, Beckham should have dominated in volume. He’s done anything but however. He currently holds 15.8% of the teams’ target share, a dismal 48.5% catch rate, and only 33 total targets on the season.

With a second-string quarterback now under center, Landry back, and Chubb a possibility to return in Week 8 as well, you should be on high alert when it comes to Beckham moving forward. Maybe Beckham still isn’t 100% healthy? Maybe this offense just isn’t built to focus on one player, no matter who they are. Or maybe Beckham has just lost a step (a pretty big step at that). But whatever the case is, he’s no longer playable in fantasy football.

Aaron Jones – 10 to 16

In a dud Week 7 performance Aaron Jones only rushed the ball six total times for a mere 19 yards on the ground. He caught all five of his targets, but only gained an additional 20 yards through the air. His paltry 6.4 fantasy points in 0.5-PPR formats reached the lowest we’ve seen since the entire offense ate a crap sandwich in Week 1 and spent the whole game with some sort of offensive food poisoning.

However, unlike with Beckham above, I do believe this is going to be more of a blip for Jones, than the “beginning of the end”. Jones has had a consistent workload in his time at Green Bay, including this season. He has 89 carries (13th) and 28 targets (11th) for the year. He’s also dominating touches on the team with 61% of the running back touches for Green Bay and 12.3% of the total team targets.

Now Davante Adams and Allen Lazard are going to miss time placed on the COVID list. For however long that affects them, Aaron Jones is going to be the direct benefactor as Aaron Rodgers looks to lean on guys he can trust and the team as a whole leans on the running game heavier. Don’t panic sell Jones after one weird performance. He does this every year where he may vanish for a game here and there during the season. But you have to start him to get those huge week-winning games as well.

Fantasy Football Stream of the Week

Teddy Bridgewater – Rostered in 30% of Leagues

Teddy Bridgewater has been an outstanding QB2 in Two-QB or Superflex leagues. But has been lacking any kind of pizzaz in standard one QB fantasy football leagues.  Week 8 at home versus a porous Washington Football Team secondary though is a great matchup to take advantage of.

The Washington Football Team has the second-highest D-PAC score versus QBs at 13.33. They are also averaging the most points allowed to the position, 26.55. So they are, more consistently than just about any other team, the best opponent to play against as a quarterback. So much so that Green Bay, in Week 7 decided to practically ignore Aaron Jones, one of the best running backs in the NFL, in a clear plan to attack this secondary. Green Bay ran the ball only 13 times all game compared to 35 pass attempts for Aaron Rodgers.

It should also go hand in hand that Washington allows the second-highest average points to the receiver position (46.34) and sports the 7th highest D-PAC score to receivers as well (20.30).  Bridgewater, who has the 15th most pass attempts in the league should have no problem connecting with Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick this week and be a great streaming option for Week 8.
