Guillotine Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 2
You are going to see huge names pop up as the top guillotine waiver wire pickups. You don’t want to empty the bank for anyone this early in the year. Stay cool, be stingy but don’t miss out on a bargain. I’ll start with some more expensive names and finish up with a few budget bids. I’ll also give a percentage of what I think someone should spend on each player for your guillotine fantasy football leagues.
Most guillotine leagues run with a budget of $1000 but make sure you spend accordingly. You’re not always gonna land your players as some other GMs will spend wildly on a guy they want. Let’s explore the top waiver wire pickups for your guillotine fantasy football leagues this week:
TE Mark Andrews – Baltimore Ravens
Max Bid: 10 – 12 %
In the NFL 2024 kickoff game, part of the Chiefs’ plan was to lock down Mark Andrews. They did that and it may have single-handedly cost some managers in guillotine leagues. Andrews caught only two passes for 14 yards. Due to the lower output and higher ADP, this was a very costly player.
As a top-four drafted TE, Andrews may draw some larger bids. It’s also unlikely he does poorly again as The Ravens host the Raiders in Week 2. Andrews had four receptions and 60+ yards five times over a six-game span last year.
Teams that punted the position are going to strike hard. If you don’t want to mess around, you’re going to have to spend up on him. With so many other teams remaining, I wouldn’t bet the farm yet.
TE Travis Kelce – Kansas City Chiefs
Max Bid: 18 – 21 %
Starting the list with a couple of highly regarded tight ends shows how easily things can end in a guillotine. Travis Kelce garnered just 34 yards on his three catches. Baltimore also kept him under wraps, allowing other skill players to shine.
The remaining teams in the league shouldn’t worry about another letdown from Kelce. Cincinnati allowed four receptions and 49 yards to Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry. If they can do that, Kelce can beat it. He’s also exceeded 55 receiving yards in four of his last six games (reg. and postseason) against the Bengals. Three of those games were over 75 yards.
A number of managers will see the opportunity to add an elite player and put down a large bid. Let them spend too much on a player, but don’t let it be for nothing. Place a reasonable bid and maybe you’ll get lucky.
WR Keenan Allen – Chicago Bears
Max Bid: 9 – 12 %
Maybe we can chalk this one up to ‘rookie jitters,’ or inexperience by Caleb Williams. Whatever the case, none of the Chicago pass catchers did anything to get hyped about in Week 1. Keenan Allen managed four receptions on a team-high 11 targets for 29 yards. D.J. Moore snagged five catches for 36 yards on eight targets. The targets are the important stat here, signifying that Allen seems like the go-to receiver for Williams at the moment. That’s the value we want!
In the hopes that the rookie signal-caller just needed to shake off those first-game jitters, we want to add a guy like Allen or Moore who saw a big chunk of targets. Next week, the Bears head to Houston in what could be a profitable fantasy matchup. Notably, Houston gave up passing touchdowns on two big plays from 54 yards and 60 yards to the Colts. A play like that would save the day for a guillotine fantasy football manager.
Allen is the kind of play that may be overlooked this week. He’s older and didn’t do anything flashy. However, he’s as reliable as anyone for fantasy football purposes. If I see him on my league’ waiver wire, I’m certainly putting a bid on him.
RB Devin Singletary – New York Giants
Max Bid: 8 – 11 %
Devin Singletary led the Giants backfield in carries (10) and rushing yards (37) in Week 1. Though he wasn’t efficient with his touches, he’s clearly the first guy getting carries. It also didn’t help that Minnesota’s run defense hasn’t seemed to slow down from where they were in 2023 when they kept opponents under 84 rushing yards in 11 of 17 games.
The following matchup for the Giants is better. They’ll face the Commanders who allowed 114 rushing yards on 27 carries, led by rookie Bucky Irving’s 62 yards. As long as Washington doesn’t get to a big lead, we shouldn’t see Singletary get cut off so abruptly.
It’s not the sexiest name that’s likely to hit your league’s waiver wire, but that could be beneficial. If your squad suffered an injury or you’re not confident in your current running backs, you might want to spend-up just a tad to pick up Singletary.
QB Dak Prescott – Dallas Cowboys
Max Bid: 8 – 12 %
Dak Prescott didn’t have a bad outing, but he sure didn’t have a great one. If another squad in your league paired him up with any of the previously mentioned players, they probably do feel too good going into Monday night. Throwing for 179 yards and one score placed him outside of the top 20 quarterbacks in four-point passing touchdown leagues.
The next opponents for Dallas are the Saints. Using our free fantasy football tool, D-PAC, the Saints had the 11th-highest rating against quarterbacks. In short, that means they are an above-average matchup for the position. While they may have looked good this past week, that was against Bryce Young and the Panthers. They are clearly still trying to find their footing with a new coaching staff and all.
The biggest hurdle in acquiring Prescott this week will be from the Jordan Love manager. If that team made the cut, they’d be willing to spend more for a top-five quarterback who single-handedly won leagues in 2023. That team will likely spend around 20 percent of its budget for positional stability.
Guillotine Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups – Budget Bids
Every week, you’re going to see players become available that you want for your team. There are two views on this. Either wait and save your budget for when you really need it or place tiny bids on those bigger names that hit the wire. I prefer the second strategy. I’ll put a less-than-one percent bid on a few players every week. I usually don’t get any of them, but every so often I score a player with big value that becomes a staple of my roster. The following players, as well as the ones previously mentioned, all fall into that category.
- Kirk Cousins – QB, Atlanta Falcons
- Caleb Williams – QB, Chicago Bears
- Devaughn Vele – WR, Denver Broncos
- Courtland Sutton – WR, Denver Broncos
- D.K. Metcalf – WR, Seattle Seahawks
- Michael Pittman – WR, Indianapolis Colts
- Rico Dowdle – RB, Dallas Cowboys
- Raheem Mostert – RB, Miami Dolphins
- Zamir White – RB, Las Vegas Raiders
- Gus Edwards – RB, Los Angeles Chargers
- Dalton Kincaid – TE, Buffalo Bills
- Evan Engram – TE, Jacksonville Jaguars
