The Dan Campbell experiment is officially underway - Pride Of Detroit

We are into year two of the Dan Campbell era, and it’s amazing that even though the Detroit Lions finished 3-13-1. Even with the bad record, which most of us Lions fans are used to, this team showed us something different compared to all other teams that I’ve seen in my 30 years of watching Detroit Lions football.

Determined. Courageous. Noble. Ferocious. United

Yes, those are the same words that my son learned in Allen Park at the Detroit Lions training facility at his football camp, but the Lions show the same for this year.

Optimism brims as Detroit Lions open training camp

All jokes aside, this is exactly what Dan Campbell and his crew wanted last year. Look at how different this team is over the last couple of years. Trading Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff. Not re-signing Kenny Golladay, letting players walk who don’t want to play here and Dan Campbell getting players here who want to play.

Yes, the record was bad, but what Campbell did was let players go who didn’t want to play in Detroit in 2021 and sign players who wanted to play here. That’s something that I haven’t seen. Showing the true meaning of the Lions’ motto “One Pride”.

Effort. Compassion. Wanting to win. Want to play. A true team.

WR DJ Chark arrives in Lions training camp with a lot to prove, and the opportunity to do it - mlive.com

With little cap space, the Lions signed wide receiver D.J. Chark this off-season as their “big” free-agency acquisition. Going into the 2022 NFL draft, this was a great addition to help Jared Goff out and pair him up with Amon-Ra St. Brown, T.J. Hockenson, and D’Andre Swift.

The Lions didn’t stop there as they drafted Aiden Hutchinson with the second overall pick and traded up to the 12th overall pick to take Alabama star wideout, Jameson Williams. Along with other draft picks to continue the build.

Many have high hopes for the Lions this season. Many have them as a playoff team, others are still optimistic. Vegas has their over/under win total at 6.5. Furthermore, what Campbell is building here is something here that should thrive for years to come.

First look at the 2022 Detroit Lions at opening day of training camp - mlive.com

We’re all excited to see what Lion’s top draft pick Aiden Hutchinson can do. What can Jameson Williams do after coming off an ACL injury? Are this year’s draft picks the building pieces we need to get to the next level? Can Jeff Okudah come back to form? Will Swift and Hockenson take the next step in the offense and finally, is Jared Goff the real answer?

Many of these questions I am sure will be seen/answered as each episode comes. Truly I want to and I’m sure you want to see is that offense! Jared Goff entering his second year at the helm. With T.J. Hockenson and D’Andre Swift coming back to health. What can one of the top offensive lines be together since an injury-riddled year? Hopefully, this and many more questions will be answered as we tune in on August 9th at 10 pm!
