We saw some big performances and some big injuries in Week 1. There are some players who could be in for a big season and some you will need to find a replacement for. Let’s get into what this news means for these players and your fantasy teams.

T. J. Watt (DL, LB) – Pittsburgh Steelers

Watt suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Sunday’s game against the Bengals. After seeking multiple opinions it appears it won’t be season-ending and he could be back by the end of October.  Excellent news for fantasy managers as Watt is one of the few IDPs that has week-winning ability.

Mykal Walker (LB) – Atlanta Falcons

It looks like Walker is the linebacker to own in Atlanta. He had a great performance in Week 1 against the Saints with six tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble. I believe his tackles will increase as he gets more opportunities. Depending on your starting lineup and roster size he might be available on the waiver wire.

Alex Highsmith (DL, LB) – Pittsburgh Steelers

Highsmith was wrecking shop Sunday against the Bengals racking up nine tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble. He also saw a high snap count in Week 1 and with Watt out with a pec injury Highsmith will continue to see a big role. Don’t expect him to repeat that performance but he should have a good game against New England.

Khalil Mack (DL, LB) – Los Angeles Chargers

The Mack is back! He is healthy and looks like he’s going to be a force on defense. Last week he was a nightmare for Derek Carr and the Raiders Sunday with three sacks, one of which was a strip-sack to help close out the game. Mack will finish the season with double-digit sacks for the first time since 2018 and have one of his best fantasy seasons.

Jeffrey Simmons (DL) – Tennesee Titans

I mentioned last week that Simmons might be someone to target if available and it proved true. Simmons had a big Week 1 and looks to be in for a big year. He is going to benefit from Landry’s absence and could finish as a top 12 DL in fantasy.

Jamal Adams (S) – Seattle Seahawks

Adams suffered a torn quadriceps injury that will require surgery causing him to miss the rest of the season. Injuries have been an issue for Adams the past few seasons and could be an issue throughout his career. it wouldn’t surprise me to see Adams fall outside the top six defensive backs in dynasty next year.
