Jakobi Meyers Signs With Raiders – Fantasy Outlook
As the first domino to fall in the 2023 wide receiver free agency class, Jakobi Meyers will join Jimmy Garoppolo in Las Vegas per Rapoport. The deal has a maximum value of 33 million over three years. A deal not too dissimilar to the one signed by Zay Jones last offseason.
Fantasy Football Outlook: Meyers has accumulated a cult following in the fantasy space through the first three years of his career with New England due to his reliability. While on the surface this move isn’t sexy, take note that he will be reuniting with his previous play caller. That would be the former offensive coordinator and current Head Coach of the Raiders, Josh McDaniels.
According to our own Consistency Score data, Meyers finished top 12 at the wide receiver position 23.5% of the time in 2022. This rate is better than Michael Pittman Jr, Christian Kirk, and Terry McLaurin. However, he did rank below them in overall consistency.
Furthermore, I expect Meyers should be able to produce catching passes underneath against lesser defenders. This is because of new teammate Davante Adams demanding the attention of combined bracket coverage from the secondary. Working from the slot in a system he is already well-versed in, Meyers will continue to produce as a low-end receiver in the 24-36 range.
Additionally, this move signals that former starting slot receiver Hunter Renfrow‘stime is over. He played in only nine games for the raiders this past season. At the same time stacking up a measly 330 yards and splitting time with Mack Hollins. The writing is on the wall for this being the end of him being a fantasy-relevant option. That being said, you can drop Renfrow in your dynasty fantasy football leagues.
