RB Joe Mixon Fantasy Football Outlook
Last season, Mixon finished as the RB7 in PPR leagues. Altogether, he amassed over 1,400 total yards with 10 touchdowns. All that Mixon has done since 2018 finished as the RB10, RB13, RB4, RB12 (missed 2 games), and the RB7 last year. Additionally, in four out of the five years he finished as an RB1, the one year he didn’t, he finished as the RB13. Impressively enough, Mixon is one of five running backs who has averaged 15+ PPR fantasy points per game in the past two years. Now let’s break down the fantasy football outlook for Mixon in 2024 and beyond.
Joe Mixon Fantasy Football Outlook
The Houston Texans traded for Mixon during the offseason and subsequently signed him to a three-year $25.5 million dollar contract. Clearly, they wanted Mixon. Notably, they traded a 7th-round pick for him to work out a deal instead of just letting him hit free agency and negotiating without surrendering the draft pick.
Will teammate and fellow running back Dameon Pierce cut into Mixon’s fantasy value? Last year Pierce was a nonfactor during the first half of the season. Devin Singletary took over the backfield from week ten on and between Weeks 10-17, he was the RB8. Pierce will not be an issue for Mixon.
With the Bengals, Mixon was a workhorse type of running back and that should continue for this year, with the Texans and their high-powered offense, led by franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Dynasty Football Outlook
Mixon just turned 27 years old and could possibly have one to two more years of RB1 production. His ADP in dynasty fantasy football is currently RB18. If you are rebuilding or not in contention for a championship, Mixon is the type of back you should be looking to trade to recoup any assets you can.
Conversely, if you are in line to contend for a championship, Mixon is an ideal back to acquire to strengthen your roster. The cost to acquire him will not be overly expensive, and he can help your fantasy team compete for a title for the next couple of years.
Conclusion
For most of his career, Mixon has been a RB1. Yet his ADP in redraft is RB13. One could argue that joining the Texans could be seen as an offensive upgrade from Cincinnati’s. Mixon sees himself having a heavy workload with his new team.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a redraft or dynasty league. Mixon is a running back I am looking to have on my fantasy football team to help me win a championship this upcoming season.
