The 2024 fantasy football season is officially here. The preseason is finally over and next week there are NFL games that will mean something in the standings and to your fantasy football teams. Some of you have already participated in drafts, and some of you will be drafting within the next week. Today, we’ll take a look at the JuJu Smith-Schuster fantasy outlook for 2024 and beyond.

A player that has re-entered the fantasy radar is wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Earlier today, the Kansas City Chiefs signed the oft-injured receiver to a one-year contract.

In this article, we’ll dive into Smith-Schuster’s 2024 fantasy football value, analyzing his past performances, his current team dynamics, and his potential for the upcoming season. We’ll explore his strengths and potential red flags. Whether you’re contemplating drafting him, picking him up on waivers, or trading for him in your dynasty leagues, this comprehensive analysis will help you make an informed decision whether to have Smith-Schuster on your fantasy team or not.

WR JuJu Smith-Schuster Fantasy Football Outlook

Schuster last played for the Chiefs in 2022 and helped to lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl. The following season he went on to sign a three-year $25 million dollar deal with the New England Patriots, where he proved to be a major disappointment.

Schuster spent one injury-filled season with the Patriots catching 29 passes for 260 receiving yards and one touchdown. He was released by the Patriots earlier this month.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Fantasy Football Outlook (2024)

Schuster’s best season was with the Pittsburgh Steelers way back in 2018 where he caught 111 passes for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns, but he has never lived up to that remarkable season since. He spent five seasons with the Steelers before signing with the Chiefs in 2022.

In 2022, Smith-Schuster rebounded with the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Ultimately, finishing the regular season with 78 receptions, 933 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. Schuster returns to the Chiefs but under very different circumstances.

During the 2022 season, Smith-Schuster only had to contend with fellow receiver Marques Valdez-Scantling. Now, the current receiving depth is much deeper for the Chiefs with sophomore Rashee Rice, free agent signing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Skyy Moore, and first-round pick rookie Xavier Worthy. Let alone tight end veteran Travis Kelce and running back Isiah Pachecho. At best, Schuster is the fifth option in this offense.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Dynasty Football Outlook

Schuster will be turning 28 years old in November, making his dynasty league football outlook questionable at best. His current dynasty ranking is WR101, and his best days as a reliable fantasy football asset are far behind him. However, depending on the size of your league and rosters, Schuster may be on the waiver wire, and if you have a large bench, Schuster is worth taking a flyer on. Personally, I wouldn’t waste a high waiver priority or any meaningful FAAB on him.

Conversely, if Schuster is on your roster, try to deal him NOW for anything that you can get. Maybe even for a fourth-round pick. Hopefully, there is someone in your league who feels the allure of Smith-Schuster with the Chiefs and Mahomes, to offer you something.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Fantasy Football – Final Thoughts

Whenever an offensive player joins the Chiefs, one has to take notice. There probably is a bit more buzz around Smith-Schuster since a couple of the Chiefs wide receivers have question marks attached to them. Brown dislocated his sternoclavicular shoulder joint a few weeks back, making his season Week 1 debut in doubt. Rice has a looming suspension over him due to his run-ins with the law this offseason.

However, Brown may only miss a week or two if that, and Rice’s suspension may not happen until next season, if at all. There are simply too many options and ifs ahead of Schuster for him to be fantasy-relevant this year. He was brought in as insurance and depth as he easily knows the offensive system with the Chiefs.

If you had your draft already, odds are that Smith-Schuster wasn’t even selected. If your draft is upcoming this week, there may be someone inclined to draft him in the later rounds. Simply put, let someone else draft Smith-Schuster or pick him up off of waivers. In the end, he might only be worth much in a best ball league on a platform such as Underdog Fantasy.
