Keep Trade Cut – Dynasty League Football (Week 8)
Welcome to our Week 8 edition of Keep Trade Cut. In this series, we break down players who are in a similar range of rankings or ADP for dynasty league football purposes. This week, we are breaking down three quarterbacks. Whether you’re in 1QB, 2QB, or Superflex dynasty fantasy football leagues, we’re here to help you out.
Leading up to Week 8, we’re gonna take a look at the quarterback position and compare some of the league’s best starters in 2024. We’ll be discussing Jared Goff (QB16), Baker Mayfield (QB17), and Tua Tagovailoa (QB18). They’re all currently being valued as QB2’s in Pro Football Network‘s most recent dynasty league football rankings.
Keep Trade Cut – Dynasty League Football (Week 8)
These three quarterbacks appear secure as their organization’s future at the position. However, this discussion in dynasty league football comes down to who we can most be confident in for fantasy football production. Beyond this current season. Continue reading to find out who we’re buying or selling with this Keep Trade Cut for Week 8.
The Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions boast two talented running back groups. They are going to get plenty of touchdowns on the ground, gobbling up production. So far, the Lions have scored 10 red zone rushing touchdowns in 2024. Compared to three passing touchdowns for Goff.
As for the Buccaneers, they have recent injuries in the receiving room. This will likely force Mayfield to navigate the offense in a new way and hopefully get help from the running backs in the passing game. Let’s take a deeper look at these starters who lead dynasty league fantasy teams when at the helm, but are also likely to face their own adversities in securing a higher place in dynasty rankings long term. Find out our picks in this week’s edition of Keep Trade Cut.
Keep Trade Cut – Baker Mayfield QB Tampa Bay Buccaneers (QB17)
We start this off by selecting Mayfield as our Keep here in Week 8. The former Cleveland Browns starter has found a future in Tampa Bay. He appears well on track to carry on his explosive start to the season.
While the team recently lost Chris Godwin for the year, Mayfield’s six top-12 finishes in 7 weeks should give dynasty managers confidence moving forward. Losing both Mike Evans and Godwin for some time will morph the offensive game plan. However, we’ve seen Mayfield involve the running backs and rookie Jalen McMillan in the passing game. McMillan, Rachaad White, and Bucky Irving‘s roles appear likely to significantly increase in the coming weeks. Moving forward, this will be a large test for Mayfield’s perception in dynasty league football.
Impressively, Mayfield currently leads the league in passing touchdowns with 18. That’s three more than the next on that leaderboard. If Mayfield can continue this dominant display and still produce 20-point outings, he could find himself creeping up these rankings as an asset in the middle of his prime at 30 years old.

Keep Trade Cut – Jared Goff QB Detroit Lions (QB16)
At times in our Keep Trade Cut series, you come across a Keep and a Trade asset that could be swapped in the hierarchy of a trio. That very well could be the case this week with both the previously mentioned Mayfield and Lions’ starter Jared Goff here in Week 8.
To start the 2024 season, Goff has also impressed with an uber-efficient 73.6% completion percentage with 10 passing touchdowns. That success carries over for Goff in the red zone, as his completion percentage is again over 70% while tossing three touchdowns. Additionally, with zero turnovers.
Furthermore, Goff both shows enough floor and ceiling as a fantasy quarterback to get away with him as a back-end QB1. However, while he continues to perform, this mid-range QB2 value has been consistent for Goff in dynasty fantasy football.
While Goff’s last three weeks have been phenomenal, he didn’t begin the season firing on all cylinders. This can be seen by low box scores where he finished comfortably outside QB1 range for fantasy purposes. That floor is desirable for a QB2, but it also comes up a bit too often with Goff’s fantasy numbers. This makes it tough for him to ever crack the top 12 or 15 options in dynasty league football rankings. This makes Goff the Trade candidate in this week’s Keep Trade Cut.

Keep Trade Cut – Tua Tagovailoa QB Miami Dolphins (QB18)
We begin and end in the state of Florida for this week’s Keep Trade Cut. With that, we have made Tua Tagovailoa our Cut of the week. Naturally, a level of risk aversion is a mindset taken by most dynasty league football managers, which could make Tagovailoa a tough player to move at this time. Even at this reduced QB18 price.
While the injury risks are a conversation to have with Tagovailoa, it’s more important to be cognizant of these value drops each time he has been hurt and returned. Tagovailoa has been a great starter at times for fantasy football purposes. Notably, he has snuck into low-end QB1 rankings in the past years. Now, he sits as the QB18 and is ready to return to the field in Week 8. Right in the middle of the pack on QB2 value.
Unfortunately, Tagovailoa lost quite a bit of dynasty league football value over the last couple of seasons. Moving forward, it could get even worse if he were to get hurt again. Unfortunately, these factors make Tagovailoa our Cut of the week for dynasty purposes. Thankfully, he returns with a clean bill of health heading into a Week 8 start for the Dolphins.

Keep Trade Cut – Dynasty League Football Outlook
This one was tough. All three of these quarterbacks have shown QB1 upside overall in the offenses they lead. Even with so much emphasis on youth in the dynasty league football community, it is still a bit surprising to see steady options like Mayfield and Goff well into the QB2 range.
Both of these players are worth holding onto in unless you encounter a perfect deal. Keep in mind, that Goff and Mayfield could easily have been swapped on this list. Not to mention, you could very well make a case for either to be higher in dynasty rankings.
Unfortunately, Tagovailoa just has too many question marks to not be the third-best asset in this scenario. For now, at least. The disappointing performance of the team in 2024 may lead to some personnel changes in 2025. While Tagovailoas’s job is likely very safe, even in that scenario, the Dolphins are attempting to build a contender. They may have to break some of the aging talent up and focus on younger ones before ascending in the AFC. That could very well put Tagovailoa in for a slow start yet again in 2025 and going forward. Come back next week as our Keep Trade Cut series continues. We will take a look at another three players in the dynasty fantasy football space.
