Kenneth Walker III 2024 Fantasy Outlook – Bust Potential?
As the 2024 fantasy football season approaches, managers must figure out what to do with Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III. He has homerun-hitting ability but some flaws in his game have limited his fantasy football upside.
Today, we’re going to analyze Walker’s 2024 fantasy football outlook. Whether you’re contemplating drafting him or trading for him in your dynasty football league, we will lay it all out and help you make an informed decision regarding Walker for your 2024 fantasy football drafts.
RB Kenneth Walker Fantasy Outlook
Coming off a PPR RB18 finish as a rookie, 2023 was more of the same for Walker. He totaled over 1,100 scrimmage yards and nine total touchdowns en route to an overall RB19 finish as well as an RB20 finish in PPR points per game. Unfortunately, we failed to see any real improvement from Walker in his sophomore season.
2024 may not be much different either. The continued presence of second-year back Zach Charbonnet, Walker’s inefficiency as a rusher, and his lack of pass-catching upside are all challenges he must overcome if he wants to be anything more than a backend RB2.
Ultimately, Charbonnet did not significantly affect Walker last year in terms of touches. He averaged 17 touches a game as a rookie in 2022 and 16.5 touches per game last year. On the other hand, pass-catching remained an issue. Walker only had the 35th most targets and receptions among all running backs. Notably, Charbonnet actually outpaced him in both areas.
Kenneth Walker Fantasy Football Outlook
Heading into 2024, Walker is being valued as an RB2. He’s going off draft boards as the RB17 in FFPC leagues. This feels right given what we’ve seen so far in Walker’s career. While he has the penchant for big plays that fantasy gamers love, it hasn’t translated in terms of elite fantasy football production.
Walker did grade out well in several broken tackle metrics in 2023. He finished second in Fantasy Points Data Suite‘s Missed Tackles Forced and third in Missed Tackles Forced Per Attempt. This confirms Walker is still a threat for blowup weeks, but he will need to improve his consistency and efficiency if he ever hopes to move into RB1 territory.
Kenneth Walker Dynasty Football Outlook
In dynasty fantasy football leagues, Walker makes for a better RB2 than RB1. He’s capable of an RB1 season, but his ceiling appears to be limited due to his boom/bust nature and inefficiencies as a rusher. Walker is still a popular dynasty asset in some circles. It’s worth exploring a trade and maybe tiering down to a lesser back who has yet to break out. All in all, Walker is still young and has time to develop. However, it’s questionable if he ever reaches his true fantasy football ceiling.
Conclusion
We now have a two-year sample size of Walker in the NFL. While he certainly has big play ability, the reality is that he’s yet to prove he can be a difference-maker in terms of fantasy football production. He can eventually enter RB1 territory if he ever surpasses 300+ touches, which could impact how we view him in our fantasy football rankings. However, his lack of pass-catching and the presence of Charbonnet make it difficult to see a viable path for that kind of volume. With an FFCP ADP of 56th overall, Walker fits best as an RB2 or flex option and fantasy gamers should draft him as such.
