According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Detroit Lions are signing veteran wide receiver Marvin Jones to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Football Outlook: The veteran receiver spent five years in Detroit from 2016-2020, totaling 289 receptions on 478 targets for 4,296 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns during those five years. Furthermore, Jones had nine receiving touchdowns in three of those seasons. More importantly, the former University of California star had two top-20 seasons during his time in Detroit, including a top-10 finish in 2017.

However, that was a different situation. Matthew Stafford was the quarterback for the Lions. More importantly, Jones was in his prime. Unfortunately, those days are behind him.

Last year the veteran wide receiver had 46 receptions on 81 targets for 529 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Jones saw his role diminish with the additions of Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram.

While he won’t have much fantasy football value in Detroit with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams on the roster, Jones is a solid veteran addition to the team. Therefore, fantasy players shouldn’t consider the veteran receiver anything more than a desperate long-shot option in deeper redraft leagues. In your dynasty leagues, he’s worth holding on to as a desperation Flex or spot start in deeper leagues, but not much more than that.
