First reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, former Eagles running back Miles Sanders is signing with the Carolina Panthers for a four-year contract worth $25 million. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter).
Fantasy Football Outlook: The latest victim of the mass exodus from the City of Brotherly Love, Miles Sanders finds a new home in Charlotte. In a career year in 2022, he put up 1,347 scrimmage yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. In addition to this, he was running back 22 in our Consistency Score metric.
He made great use of one of the league’s best offensive lines in Philly. This was done to the tune of 5.1 YPC in his first four seasons in the NFL. Despite these totals, he only managed to put up 12.7 fantasy points per game.
This is because Sanders is what can only be referred to as a “pure runner”. He is quick to burst through gaps as they present themselves. At the same time, he is very poor at creating his yards by making defenders miss in open space.
Additionally, with his new team planning to bring in a rookie quarterback the start of the 2023 season is expected to be rough. Unless they buck the trend of rookies having slow starts in the league, the offensive efficiency will suffer as a whole.
Conversely, We all know snaps lead to production. Sanders can be expected to get a vast majority of the snaps here due to the lack of competition. But, if he continues to not be used in the passing game, do not set your expectations high. He will likely be a firm RB2 for as long as he’s healthy. I would not buy for more than a late first-round rookie pick on a contending dynasty team.
