Our best bet of the day will target Washington Nationals (45-53) left-handed ace MacKenzie Gore to surpass 6.5 total strikeouts at home against the Cincinnati Reds (47-51) on a single-unit wager.
In lieu of their struggles thus far this season, Gore has remained one of the bright spots in Washington’s rotation, posting some impressive figures in the advanced metrics department. From a sheer percentile standpoint among MLB starting pitchers, Gore ranks 78th in K%, 83rd in Whiff%, 84th in Average Exit Velocity, and 91st in Extension, per Baseball Savant.
Gore has also pitched to a competent 3.71 SIERA rating (Skill-Interactive ERA), to go along with a 13.4% Swinging-Strike Percentage, and has hit this prop in four of his last seven starts dating back to mid-June.
This evening, Gore is up against a Reds team that has struggled at the plate all season long and currently ranks 27th in Batting Average (.231), 28th in xBA (.235), 22nd in On-Base Percentage (.305), 25th in Strikeouts per Game (9.02), and 26th in Expected Weighted On-Base Average (.303), the latter metric ranking among the worst 7% across Major League Baseball.
