0

Welcome back to Fanelli’s Fave Five Prop Bets. In this series, we break down Mike Fanelli’s five favorite player prop bets for the upcoming primetime NFL matchup of the week. Today we have a Monday Night Football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons. This game kicks off Monday Night at 8:15 PM, EST.

Week 1 of the 2024 NFL regular season is nearly in the books. Hopefully, bettors came away with more money in their pockets than they started the week with. However, the grind never stops. So, let’s not waste any time and get down to business with today’s player prop bets.

Player Prop Bets – Monday Night Football

Monday night, we have a matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. While fans will have their eyes glued to the game, watching every play with the utmost attention, sports bettors only care about making money. However, which prop bets will lead to cash in their pockets? Here are my five favorite prop bets for this week’s Monday Night Football game.

All props and odds are from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Jalen Hurts Over 232.5 Passing Yards (-110)

While Saquon Barkley stole the show in his Eagles debut in Week 1, Hurts had a strong performance. The star quarterback had 278 passing yards on 34 attempts, including a 67-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown. Last year, Hurts averaged 226.9 passing yards per game, down from his career-best 246.7 in 2022. However, he still managed to total 277 or more passing yards in nearly half of the games last season.

Atlanta made several additions to their defense in the offseason, signing Justin Simmons and trading for Matthew Judon. Yet, their defense is still far from elite. They surrendered only 156 passing yards on 23 attempts to Justin Fields in Week 1. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers passing attack is one of the worst in the NFL. Even though he won’t have Brown for this game, Hurts should have no trouble totaling 240 or more passing yards.

Kirk Cousins Over 224.5 Passing Yards (-115)

Cousins struggled in the Week 1 loss to the Steelers, totaling only 155 passing yards. However, he only had 26 pass attempts in his first game since tearing his Achilles last year. More importantly, the veteran didn’t play in the preseason, making last week his first live-action with a new set of weapons and a new play-caller. Yet, bettors should expect a bounce-back performance on Monday night against the Eagles.

The former Minnesota Vikings starter had 364 passing yards on 44 attempts against Philadelphia last year. Furthermore, Cousins had 274 or more passing yards in 75% of his games last season. The veteran has had 300 or more passing yards in four of his last five matchups against the Eagles. Meanwhile, Philadelphia gave up the fourth-most passing yards per game to quarterbacks in 2023 (267.7) and fifth-most in Week 1 (278).

Saquon Barkley Over 75.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

Fantasy football players and bettors couldn’t be happier with Barkley’s Week 1 performance. The superstar running back had 24 rushing attempts for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, he had two receptions for 23 receiving yards and a score in the win over the Green Bay Packers. Barkley played 80.3% of snaps and had 92.9% of the touches out of the team’s backfield. The former Penn State star was a monster in the second half of Week 1.

Despite struggling in the first half, Barkley was unstoppable after halftime. He had 78 rushing yards on 15 attempts, averaging 5.2 yards per rush. More importantly, the Eagles will need to lean on the superstar running back even more in Week 2 with A.J. Brown out of the lineup. Last week, the Falcons surrendered 70 rushing yards to Najee Harris despite facing a struggling Steelers offense line. Expect Barkley to feast as the focal point of the offense.

Bijan Robinson Over 24.5 Receiving Yards (-165)

Thankfully, Arthur Smith is not allowed within 100 feet of Robinson. After being in a near 50-50 split with Tyler Allgeier as a rookie, the former Texas star played 89% of the snaps in Week 1. He had 88.5% of the backfield touches, including all five targets. Robinson had 43 receiving yards last week, the second-most on the team. Finally, he has had at least 26 receiving yards in 61.1% of the games in his career.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia surrendered 32.7 receiving yards per game to running backs in 2023, around the league average. Last week, they gave up 22 receiving yards on six targets to Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson on 27 routes. By comparison, Robinson had five receptions on five targets on 20 routes in Week 1. More importantly, his 25% target per route run rate ranked first among Falcons with at least 16 routes (per Fantasy Points Data).

DeVonta Smith Over 75.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Smith had an excellent Week 1 performance, totaling seven receptions on eight targets for 84 receiving yards. He led the team in routes run with 36 and finished second in yards per route run at 2.33. Last year, the former Alabama star averaged 66.6 receiving yards per game. However, Smith averaged 77.5 receiving yards per game at home, totaling 78 or more in 62.5% of those contests. More importantly, he’s playing in the slot in Kellen Moore’s offense.

Last week, the star receiver ran 72.2% of his routes (26) from the slot. The next closest Eagle had 13 slot routes in Week 1. Smith’s 58 receiving yards from the slot were the fifth-most in the NFL last week. Meanwhile, the Falcons struggled to contain George Pickens, giving up 85 receiving yards on seven targets. With A.J. Brown out with a hamstring injury, Smith could easily total 100 or more receiving yards.
