NFL Best Bet of the Day – Buccaneers vs. Lions

Our best bet between Tampa Bay and Detroit will target the Buccaneers against the spread on a single-unit wager.

The Bucs rolled over the Washington Commanders in Week 1, en route to a whopping 37-20 victory, led in large part by the brilliance of QB Baker Mayfield. The former Oklahoma signal-caller went 24-30 through the air with 289 passing yards and four touchdown passes.

Mayfield was also extremely efficient in the advanced metrics/analytics department ranking second among active QBs in Completion% (80%), third in Average Intended Air Yards (5.0), and fourth in Completion Percentage Above Expectation (10.3%), per NFL Next Gen Stats.

As a team, the Buccaneers defense was also impressive in Week 1 ranking third across the NFL in Blitz% (42.4%) and 13th in Sack% (7.7%). These stats hold particular relevance because, at the very least, Tampa Bay’s defense should regularly pressure and force Lions QB Jared Goff to scramble and ultimately get out of the pocket.

On the other sideline, and in lieu of their win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, Dan Campbell’s squad was average in a wide range of metrics both on the ground and in the passing game.

As a team, the Lions ranked 26th in Completed Air Yards (69), 14th in Average Depth of Target (6.7), and 15th in Rushing Attempts per Broken Tackles (10.3), via Pro Football Reference.

As expected, the Lions enter this contest as the better overall team and should emerge victorious. However, look for the Buccaneers to keep this game close at an enticing (-115) price point.
