NFL Best Bet of the Day (NY Jets vs. SF 49ers)

The first Monday Night Football matchup of the 2024 NFL campaign features the New York Jets (0-0) taking on the San Francisco 49ers (0-0) at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, as Week 1 concludes. Let’s take a look at today’s NFL best bet of the day.

In addition to the on-field action, there are plenty of value plays available across the board for prospective bettors to choose and hopefully profit from. So without further ado, let’s dive in and examine my favorite best bet between the Jets and 49ers on Monday Night Football.

All NFL odds and lines are current as of Sunday, September 8th, at 9:30 PM and courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

NFL Best Bet of the Day – Jets vs. 49ers

Domenic Lunardo’s 2024 NFL Betting Record: 0-0-0 (0.00 units)

Bet Name: New York Jets – Team Total Points: Under 21.5

Sportsbook: DraftKings

Odds: (-162)

Wager: 1 Unit

Our Monday Night Football best bet will target the Under on the Jets’ team total in points alternatively set at 21.5, on a single-unit wager, on the road against San Francisco.

Considering how fluid and inconsistent rosters are during the pre-season, much of our statistical analysis in support of this wager will focus on last year.

The 2023 season saw the 49ers defense rank third in football in both Rushing Yards Conceded Per Game (89.7) and Points Conceded Per Game (17.5), and eighth in yards Conceded Per Game (303.9), via The Football Database. Conversely, this electric offense led by Brock Purdy can certainly do some damage. With weapons in Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle, there are a ton of fantasy football implications as well. And rightfully so.

Last year also saw Kyle Shanahan’s team post some impressive figures in the advanced metrics/analytics department, specifically on the defensive side of the football. San Francisco ranked third in the NFL in both Blitz% (18%) and Percentage of Touchdowns Thrown when Attempting to Pass (3.2%), second in Yards After Catch on Completions (2,344), and fourth in Opponent Passer Rating (79.6), per Pro Football Reference.

On the opposite sideline, and in lieu of their 7-10 record, the Jets ranked at the bottom across a wide range of offensive categories, albeit without starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers who missed the entire 2023 campaign after an injury in Week 1. Despite this, Garrett Wilson still was very productive.

Last year, the Jets ranked dead-last in both Completion% (59.2%) and Passer Rating (70.5), and 31st in First Down% (25.6%), and Yards Per Attempt (5.6).

Even with a healthy Rodgers this time around, it’s a tall task to go into San Francisco. Not to mention, put points on the board with any consistency and regularity, and enter play tomorrow evening as 3.5-point underdogs.

Look for a stingy 49ers defensive core to keep the Jets under 21.5 points at an adequate (-162) price point. Let’s lock this one in as our NFL best bet of the day.
