Today, I’ll be breaking down my latest NFL free agency predictions, along with the best player landing spots. Continue reading to learn about the latest free agents and their top landing spots.
Top Remaining Free Agents and Landing Spots
This year, many top players are set to hit the open market. Below are some of the top remaining free agents. That is, assuming they don’t re-sign or get franchise-tagged before free agency begins. Additionally, we have our top potential landing spots based on team needs, cap space, and fit. This list reflects the current landscape, though extensions or tags could alter availability.
While DK Metcalf isn’t a free agent, he’s been a hot name as of late. Notably, because he’s requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks. Check out our top landing spots for DK Metcalf to learn more. Outside of Metcalf, there are still a ton of talented free agents on the market. Let’s kick things off with the Minnesota Vikings and Sam Darnold.
Sam Darnold, QB (Age: 27)
2024 Recap: Darnold revitalized his career with the Vikings, throwing for 4,265 yards, 39 TDs, and 13 INTs. Impressively, he had a 103.4 passer rating. His late-season struggles (two poor games) slightly dimmed his shine. However, he’s the top quarterback available in free agency this year.
Best Landing Spots:
Las Vegas Raiders: With Pete Carroll as head coach and Chip Kelly as OC, Darnold fits as a high-end game manager for a team needing a QB bridge. Additionally, they have $48 million in cap space and might miss top draft QBs at No. 6.
Tennessee Titans: With $70 million in cap space, they could pair Darnold with new weapons, supporting Will Levis or replacing him if he falters.
Indianapolis Colts: If they sour on Anthony Richardson, Darnold offers Shane Steichen a reliable option with $35 million in cap room.
Davante Adams, WR (Age: 32)
2024 Recap: Adams split the season between the Raiders and Jets, finishing with 85 catches, 1,063 yards, and 8 TDs in 14 games. After a midseason trade to reunite with Aaron Rodgers, his production dipped slightly (45.6% catch rate with the Jets). Recently, he was released by the Jets to save $29.9 million in cap space. The six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro is now the top free agent WR after Tee Higgins was franchise-tagged.
Best Landing Spots:
Green Bay Packers: A reunion makes sense with $62.7 million in cap space and a need for a veteran WR after Christian Watson’s ACL injury. Adams thrived with Jordan Love early in Love’s career, and at 32, he’d prioritize a contender. Also, his familiarity with Matt LaFleur’s system is a bonus.
Los Angeles Chargers: With $70 million in cap space, Adams could be Justin Herbert’s No. 1 target. A California native (Palo Alto), he’s reportedly interested in a West Coast return.
Pittsburgh Steelers: If Aaron Rodgers joins (both are free agents), Adams could follow, pairing with George Pickens. Additionally, Pittsburgh’s $50 million in cap space and contender status fit, though QB uncertainty looms without Rodgers.
Chris Godwin, WR (Age: 29)
2024 Recap: Before a season-ending ankle injury in Week 7, Godwin had 576 yards and 5 TDs in seven games. Overall, he’s a reliable slot receiver seeking a rebound. We recently broke down the top 4 landing spots for Godwin here.
Best Landing Spots:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: A return makes sense with $50 million in cap space and Baker Mayfield’s chemistry, though talks are ongoing.
Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen needs a possession receiver post-Cooper, and $40 million in cap space supports a competitive bid.
Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young could use Godwin’s savvy, with $36 million in cap room, to bolster the offense.
Aaron Jones, RB (Age: 31)
2024 Recap: Last year, Jones ran for 1,162 yards and 8 TDs with the Vikings. Ultimately, he proved he’s still a top back despite turning 31 in December 2024. His receiving production, in addition to his rushing work, should continue to make him valuable into next year, depending on where he lands. This makes him a very interesting buy-low candidate in dynasty football leagues.
Best Landing Spots:
Minnesota Vikings: With $61 million in cap space, re-signing Jones keeps their run game strong alongside J.J. McCarthy.
Los Angeles Chargers: A complement to J.K. Dobbins in Harbaugh’s run-heavy scheme, with ample cap room to spend.
Tennessee Titans: Pairing Jones with Tony Pollard could diversify their backfield, leveraging their $70 million cap.
Josh Sweat, EDGE (Age: 28)
2024 Recap: Sweat notched 8.5 sacks and had an impressive 12% pressure rate for the Super Bowl champion Eagles, excelling as a rotational rusher.
Best Landing Spots:
Philadelphia Eagles: With $45 million in cap space, retaining Sweat maintains their elite defense, though he may seek a bigger role.
Detroit Lions: Needing edge depth after injuries, their $58 million cap could lure Sweat to a contender.
Atlanta Falcons: A top priority at edge with $41 million in cap space, Sweat boosts their pass rush.
Khalil Mack, EDGE (Age: 34)
2024 Recap: Mack had 6.5 sacks and remained a run-stopping force for the Chargers. However, he’s also hinted at a potential retirement.
Best Landing Spots:
Los Angeles Chargers: With $70 million in cap space, they could keep Mack for Herbert’s playoff push.
Carolina Panthers: A reunion with Dave Canales (ex-Seahawks coach) and $36 million in cap room could add veteran juice.
Kansas City Chiefs: A short-term deal ($28 million cap) for a title chase with Mahomes makes sense.
D.J. Reed, CB (Age: 28)
2024 Recap: Reed allowed just 40 yards on 96 press coverage snaps for the Jets, ranking 28th in targets per snap—a shutdown corner.
Best Landing Spots:
New York Giants: With $40 million in cap space, Reed fills a gaping hole at CB1 for a struggling secondary.
Washington Commanders: $96 million in cap space and a need to pair with Marshon Lattimore make Reed a fit.
Las Vegas Raiders: Rebuilding their league-worst secondary ($48 million cap) with Reed’s versatility.
Jevon Holland, S (Age: 25)
2024 Recap: Holland’s coverage grade dipped (63.0 PFF). However, his youth and prior 73.0+ grades make him a top safety.
Best Landing Spots:
Minnesota Vikings: With $61 million in cap space, Brian Flores could reunite with Holland for his two-high scheme.
Los Angeles Chargers: Harbaugh’s connection to the Reid family and $70 million in cap room align with Holland’s skills.
New England Patriots: Mike Vrabel’s Quarters-heavy defense fits Holland, backed by $127 million in cap space.
Latest Notes on the NFL Free Agency Market
Franchise Tag Deadline: March 4th was the deadline, and that has passed. However, teams can still negotiate extensions. Players like Trey Smith (Chiefs) and Tee Higgins (Bengals) might get tagged or extended soon, reducing this pool.
Cap Space Leaders: Patriots ($127M), Commanders ($96M), Titans ($70M), and Chargers ($70M) can be aggressive, while teams like the Saints (-$59M) are limited.
Position Depth: The 2025 NFL Draft class is weaker at RB and QB compared to 2024. However, it is strong at EDGE, CB, and WR, giving teams options.
