October 14th marks Columbus Day in the United States and Thanksgiving in Canada. This means we have afternoon hockey as part of the Monday NHL slate. Let’s dive in and examine my favorite NHL best bet of the day between the Los Angeles Kings (1-0-1) and Ottawa Senators (1-1-0) from the Canadian Tire Center in Kanata, Ontario.

All NHL odds and lines are current as of Monday, October 14th, at 9:30 am E.T. and courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Sportsbook: DraftKings

Odds: (+130)

NHL Best Bet of the Day – Kings vs. Senators

Our best bet between Los Angeles and Ottawa will target Kings centerman Quinton Byfield to exceed 2.5 shots on goal on the road against the Sens, on a single-unit wager.

The Kings have enjoyed a solid start to the 2024-25 campaign registering three out of a possible four points on the road, and owe much of their success to their dynamic, speedy, and burly 22-year-old centerman, Byfield.

From a statistical standpoint, the Newmarket, Ontario native has registered two assists, seven shots on target, and a 50% Offensive Zone Start Percentage, to go along with 18:26 worth of ice-time, per Pro Hockey Reference.

The former second-overall selection at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft has also posted some impressive advanced analytics, ranking fourth on the Kings in each of the following offensive metrics: Expected Goals (0.5), Expected Goals per 60 Minutes (0.75), and Created Expected Goals (0.6), via MoneyPuck.

This afternoon, Byfield is expected to feature on Jim Hiller’s third line alongside sniper Kevin Fiala and Warren Foegele. In addition, he’s also presumed to play the half-wall on Los Angeles’ second power-play unit, which should provide him with plenty of good looks and prime opportunities to generate offense.

It’s also important to note that Byfield has surpassed 2.5 shots on goal in each of the Kings’ first two games of the season, accounting for a terrific 100% success/hit rate.

Look for the Kings’ youngster to hit his shot prop at a fabulous (+130) price point.
