Rashaad Penny Signs With Eagles – Fantasy Outlook
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to terms with former Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny on Tuesday. The terms of this deal have yet to be disclosed. It will not become official until the start of the new league year on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
Fantasy Football Outlook: The Eagles have already suffered free-agent losses on both sides of the football. And although the biggest hit has come on the defensive side of the football, this is an offense that will also look different in 2023. OT Andre Dillard is on his way to the Titans and per reports, Miles Sanders is expected to sign elsewhere as well. Even longtime Eagles running back mainstay Boston Scott is up in the air to return.
Ahead of the PPenny agreement, the only Eagles running back under contract was Kenneth Gainwell. Gainwell is expected to take on an expanded role in 2023, but the addition of Penny certainly hinders his overall ceiling. When Penny is healthy, he is one of the better fantasy running backs in the NFL, averaging 12.2 FPPG in 2021 and 10.4 FPPG in 2022. As for efficiency, Penny brings the heat. Back in 2021, he was the RB2 in true yards per carry (5.2) and RB1 in yards per touch (6.4) in 10 games. Furthermore, Penny was also the RB1 in true yards per carry (5.4) last season. However, it was just a five-game sample size.
Penny was outstanding behind an average offensive line in Seattle. Just imagine what he can do behind an Eagles front five that perennially is one of the NFL’s elite. If Penny can stay healthy, he will be in the RB1 conversation. But since we know that health is a dire handicap for Penny, his ADP will be discounted. The risk will be baked into his price, making him one of the more polarizing fantasy football running back to target this offseason.
