NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting the Houston Texans signed former Tennesee Titans WR Robert Woods to a two-year deal worth $15.3 million on Friday. This deal includes $10 million in guaranteed money with a max contract value of $17 million.

Fantasy Football Outlook: First of all, this is a fairly un-sexy signing for the Houston Texans. However, the addition of veteran wide receiver Robert Woods should pay dividends over the long haul. That being said even if it is more so for his off-the-field contributions.

Coming off an ACL injury, the 30-year-old wide receiver had an underwhelming season for the Tennessee Titans in 2022. He totaled 53/527/2 stat line on 97 targets with a career-low 9.9 yards per catch. Did Woods regress that badly or was he subject to a piss-poor Titans passing attack? I would say, the latter is the more likely scenario.

Woods may not be the same player he was with the Rams. That being said, he definitely brings some fantasy football value to the table. Especially in PPR scoring formats. Most likely, he will operate as the Texans’ WR1/ primary possession receiver and chain mover. Furthermore, Woods is going to be the safety blanket for whichever rookie signal caller the Texans elect to draft in April.

When it comes to off-the-field contributions, that is where Woods’ value peaks. The Texans are a young and rebuilding football team in dire need of direction and Woods is a 10-year NFL veteran. Additionally, his experience and leadership qualities are where the Texans will look to cash in.

For fantasy football purposes, Woods is likely going to fall to double-digit rounds of fantasy football drafts due to recency bias, age, and situation. That being said, he won’t be a league winner, but depending on where you draft him, he will likely outperform his ADP.
